ES international Taffy boy beat you english b'stards!!!!
Boys Javelin 1 Jon Llewelyn Wales 62.32 2 Steven Tunock England 58.60 3 Jackson Curtis England 56.74 4 Matthew Martin Ireland 54.49 5 Jaco Oosthuysen Ireland 49.05 6 Thomas Morgan Wales 48.42 7 Jordan Morrison Scotland 47.08 8 Michael Downie Scotland 46.14
Freya threw a new record and still has a nother go at it next year - English but of welsh origin so she's OK! A moral victory for the taffs!
Girls Javelin 1 Freya Jones England 46.61 2 Danielle Bentley England 43.20 3 Ailish Sheehan Ireland 34.30 4 Nicky McMurtrie Scotland 32.93 5 Mary Moynihan Ireland 32.17 6 Zoe Priestley Wales 32.14 7 Amy Tidball Wales 28.53
also laim in the disc is from wales origianlly as well so this is another welsh victory and he threw a foul which would have been a meet record - making up somewhat for losing the ES last weeek by a few cms and by a lad who threw a 5m pb!
Boys Discus 1 Liam Biddlecombe England 52.41 2 Marco Pons Ireland 48.45 3 Jake Armstrong England 45.82 4 Gareth Irvine Ireland 45.31 5 Chris Barnes Scotland 39.68 6 Rheon James Wales 38.11 7 Lewis Griffiths Wales 36.94 8 David Colthart Scotland 36.85
Rheon James by the way is the welsh lad who threw 50m in the jav as an U15 in matti's age group and came 2nd in the discus and 3rd in the shot AAA. He is signed up by the scarlets and from what I have seen is injured lots and has awful throwing techniques. We tried to get him down to cardiff once a week but as happens in Wales few are interested - he was injured initially but seemed keen indoors but we never saw him! The group we have here is outstanding but many athletes seem to stay away. In discus we have number 1,2 or 3 men sen, u20, u17, u15 in the UK, similar for shot, good hammer throwers and multi eventers but next to no javelin throwers. The under 17 lad did really well btw after throwing 50-55 until this and one other throw but apart from that on the national level in boys and girls javelin is not particularly good with most cases, non achieving pb's this year in the younger age groups. Tesni is the stand out thrower but she is an anglo. I truly is in a puzzling state. Let us hope our new national coach for wales does something about it or allow us to do something about it.

...i was only a joke as well so steady on yourself their cowboy! Hopefully, you could judge that from the tone of the post. Also, you don't really think I would racially abuse anyone on a public forum especially my own. The 'ingleesh b'stards you steenk' is from blackadder i believe when the spanish caputure him (the gards said it i think) and lord melchet by rick mayal and hs cunning disguise as a sheep with the good lord if i remember correctly. this black adder has a lot to answer for! I'm sure there is welsh in everyone! peace and love

I'm not getting on any high horses tbh, I just think if I was a parent of those kids in that comp reading what you said - even in jest, which it obviously was [even I'm not that naive to think it was serious!] wouldn't make good reading.
I think you've made an error of judgement in that post.

Yet another big day out for the Finns with 3 guys going 84m+ in poor weather conditions. The news of the day going to Wirkala who threw 5 throws within 1m of his life-time best and 2 pbs to boot! Expect to see more form him in Berlin, he was looking technically near perfect and only jogging into the throw because of the rain. Ruuskanen also looked close to really catching hold of one although he ended up topping everything. The only downer on the day was Järvenpää who looked tense and frustrated and technically totally out of sync although he did stumble over the line with one 86m effort in round 2 but was unable to reproduce it.
There will be 4 Finns in Berlin...
1. Teemu Wirkkala 1984 ToholU 85,84 84,34 84,95 X 84,71 83,96 85,84 2. Antti Ruuskanen 1984 PielavSa 84,64 81,77 84,64 81,45 82,12 81,17 83,55 3. Top stuff from the Finns. As ever. For the Berlin medals perm the Thork & any 2 Finns.
Just as good, if less expected, was the 30 year old Adrian Markowski who won the Polish champs with 84.85, a 6m PB! Never too late....

I remember him winning the European Junior Championships in Ljubljana in July 1997 with 78.42m which was a Championship Record at the time. If it had been World Juniors that year there is no doubt he would have won that. Emeka, Dwain, Christian and Nathan also won Gold in those Championships !!!

That was DC's 10.06 secs 100m WJR comp that one...and it was also for Dave a better junior champs than Sydney WJ's [@ 16 years old and u/17 proper btw] I also seem to remember a certain triple jumper had to have their stomach pumped from drinking too much! ;D

No, I "only" threw 61.00m with the 800 as an under 17 in '97 so didn't throw the qualifying distance which if I remember was 66.00m - I did have one of those red letter days though in training with the 800 later that summer season where it seemed the harder I tried the Javelin went further! - those days don't come around very often, but they do at times and if I remember rightly I threw 63/64m. My first and only junior Majors was the WJC's in Chile, 2000 indeed Phil and unfortunately or fortunately [depends how you look at it!] I actually qualified in terms of distance for the WJ's in annecy '98 - one you know well Phil! and also EJ's in Riga '99 but had Dave and Dan finish both times ahead of me at the AAA's and with Juniors only taking 2 per event it was those who got the places. I actually think I was maybe hard done by in '99, as I'd beaten Dan all year and Dan who was injured [ankle] took one throw at the AAA's to throw 69 and qualify, he couldn't throw any further throws due to his ankle - he then went to the champs injured and bombed with a 59 if I remember rightly. I think maybe if I'd of had that chance I may of done better than throw 59 and if nothing else would of been a huge help towards learning about championships in view to the Chile WJ's. To be fair to Dan he was one of the most fierce competitors I ever threw against and nearly always delivered when it mattered - at times in awful conditions. I really enjoyed competing amongst a real talented crop of young Javelin throwers back then - names at first which I'd only ever seen in the AW results section and to be honest 'names' that were my idols! Clifton Green, Dan Carter, Steve Jameson, David Parker, Tim Kitney, James Apps....all people I looked up to, as they were a year older and without doubt inspired me to emulate them the year later - seeing Dave beat Clifton for first time at the '95 Nottingham Schools' was incredible - seeing a Javelin fly 64.50m was amazing and the furthest I'd ever seen anyone throw a Javelin before!! I was always pretty much on my own in the rankings when I was the top year in the age group from top year u/17 onward really - not the same competitiveness to be had, but I have to say it did feel very good being ranked first and by quite a long way ahead. A slight ramble there, but nice to relive some nostalgic moments that most on here won't understand, but I'm sure you will Phil.

You were certainly an intrinsic part of the scene in those late '90's. Squad sessions here, there and everywhere with Coaches and Dads invited.
One very vivid memory is post Annecy, going to Cannock for a meeting....I don't even remember what it was but David was carrying an injury ( as usual ), I think it was the injury to his lower hamstring that he did a couple of weeks before the WJ's. Anyway you won, I think, Tim was 2nd and David scraped 3rd. At presentation you were first up on the Podium then Tim and then in 3rd place World Junior Champion.......Dav...and everyone started laughing!!!!
That was good fun. The only thing that spoilt it was the overbearance of GK. You know who I mean.
They were happy days I agree. Not knowing what lay ahead was a blessing although seeing Adrian Markowski's recent 'Roberson' moment one can still hope.
Phil

I do "know" what you mean! The comp in question was the Junior league final at Cannock in '98 and was actually David's first comp back after the Annecy WJ win and it's still Tim's PB that - 68.08m I think. The first time anyone in the same age group had beaten Dave from the British isles since he was under 15. I like your use of a phrase - "Roberson" moment - we all dream of one ;D ....like Rumps when he had his amazing day at Gateshead it'll be 10 years next year when I last PB'd maybe I can also do a 5m PB jump in one comp?? - that'd be nice!

Guys, talking about pb's have you noticed that most of this seasons pb's have been set very early on in the season Merv,Chris etc when most of the throwers were still be in heavy training and as the season progressed performances have come down, anyone got any views as to why this is the case, should heavy work be continued through the season instead of tapering off etc for competition,
