I heard it from one of my other athletes that Lee D threw 66 something but pulled/strained his calf warming up and it was a troubling head wind!
I hope it was alcohol induced dehydration that caused this calf injury. It is early days but barring Alex VDM - nobody has stepped up yet. ALex hasnt' found the same form when returning to England - knowing how long and arduous the US track season is this is understandible, but it is great to see him improving - well done mate. One good thing is that the met office reckons we are going to have a hot summer with rain in between. If you remember last year, the weather was terrible mst of the summer with many meets in rainy or overcast conditions. The Bedford meets, throws fest, nat league matches early season were not good in terms of conditions i.e hot sunny day with helpful breezes!!!!
I think we'll have some good scores on the doors by May/june - I think there are quite a few athletes who will be upwardly mobile this year - or are ready to make that step. Anyone know what sort of shape Nick is in i.e. has his shoulder problem gone.
From some of the meetings I have been to recently, it looks like qualifying for the major games (esp our field events) will be tough - i.e. hit A standards more that once and preferably at recognised meets and or AAA's
Good luck to all this year and lets see all our throws undertake a re-emergence in 2008

Just seen today on the UKA site that the qualifying distance is 67m for the AAAs this year. How many people do you reckon will make that? If there are healthy athletes around unlike last year there coulbd be 15+ I reckon.

that'll be a healthy rankings list if it happens! if it does, i'm sure it'll push more blokes to go over 70 and then in turn 72, 73 etc.
on the subject of the AAA's i personally think 75m will medal and 77/78m will be enough to win - if this holds true i think it'll be a very congested rankings with lots of people between high 60's and low 70's, which on any given day could beat each other at any given comp - which makes it interesting as it'll really show who the best competitors are.
what will be interesting is will anyone who hasn't already thrown 80m [ie nearly everyone - only nick nieland has thrown 80m] actually break into the 80m bracket - it's been 12 years since anyone has done this, incidentally it was nick, going from 79.97m to 83.06m to win the AAA's in 1996....a sad fact.
i think imo there are athletes capable of one day going 80, but maybe this year will be a year or two too early for most.

What was the Qual last year - wasn' t it more? MAybe because there were less over 70 last year than the previous. I see the POT is 69 like lat year (68m the year before). I hope this year see's improvement from last

2 more young Americans (or 1 Australian training in America) over the 80m barrier yesterday.
Chris Hill 81.72 and Adam Montague 80.20. Something in the water over there with Corey White improving from 71 - 81m in no time.
