This may be helpful but...Liverpool Harriers run a throws-only meet at Wavertree every April and September complete with posh 'leckie measuring and stuff. It's put together by Ronnie Bomba and the last couple I've been at have been well organised and held in a good atmosphere.
If you don't mind rubbing shoulders with Discusy types and such like there could be some "economies of scale" to be had...
...and it's North of Watford !

It would be an excellent idea to hold a jav fest in the north for us northern athletes,i have attended the Liverpool throws comp for the past few years and are very well organised. Or another idea is hold them in the midlands then equal distances to travel for all

I have had ZERO response from the college so......
in light of recent revelations regarding the plight of Moorways Stadium - Derby, I am going to enquire about the potential use of the stadium for JF7.. it's a bit further south than the college track but still further north than the "Watford Gap"... i'll get my passport

Derby would work for my husband (taxi driver) on the 13th or 27th September as it is on the way to either Scunthorpe or Walsall. His mighty Carlisle are playing at these venues on those dates!!!!!!!!!! The plan would be to deposit me at the track very early and pick me up very late. Otherwise, it would have to be Sheepmount in Carlisle on the 6th and 20th for me to get there. Now that would be a northern destination for Javfest! ;D ;D

i shall be contacting the stadium regarding booking for this fixture. the curent costs are £46 per hour but that is for full athletics facility (set up costs etc) i have been advised that this figure should be siginifcantly less as we only need javelin (obviously) when i get a price i will let everyone know. we might need a sponsor!!! the day is usually 7 to 8 hours long.

Today i spoke to the bookings department for Moorways Stadium Derby
Stadium is provisionally booked for Saturday 20th september 2008 with a first event start time of 10.30 and end time of 5.30pm
7hrs booking
Price is TBC as we are only using the javelin areas
for the Bar we have two options.. either get Derby AC to have theirs open, it is under the stand around the back or use the bar in the sports centre.
I personally feel it better if we give something back to the club who's home track it is. this has been the norm over the years.
When i get the final price for the venue i would like to engage talks with anyone on this board who feels like they would like to contribute to the booking costs so that the entry fees for athletes is kept the same as always (£5 for one age group £2.50 for every extra age group entered thereafter)

This is really late in the day I know but Brunel is available for use!!!! Probably would'nt cost anything either as I could pass it off as a squad!!
Track is nice and the winds are always decent!!
Two bars to choose from and possiblity of a crowd, as I can publicise it around campus!!

Thanks chris but we are going to stick with derby as the Jav fests have been in the "south" for the last 4 years so it's time it went a bit further north.

Is it not possible to get a track for nothing or next to nothing as we have done at Watford, Eton (numerous), Bedford and MK?
