I always use my comp runup in training and that has a generous bit of space for following through- this man never fouls..ever

with me being a sucker ofr punishment i'm throwing AGAIN tomorrow with a few old mates! going to set off bright and early to head for sheffield to meet up with david parker, james campbell, felix hatton and brian parkes.......tbh i'm really looking forward to it and the weather's meant to be nice, so rock and roll. only down sides are my fingers still sore and my legs, well tbh my whole body is aching from my previous exploits this week [tough week at work too tbh] but hey ho, i can't grumble!!!! ;D - just glad to be able to throw again i'll report back on my findings.......

weighing in at 79.7kg i went to sheffield today to throw with james campbell, david parker, young matt hunt, brian parkes and mick hill also turned out....... still feeling a little achey from my previous throwing this week [3 sessions in the last week] i headed down the motorway in the lovely sunshine my warm up was a little longer thna normal as i thought best i get loosened off properly as i thought i best be sensible and actually like i knew what i was doing ;D as for actual throwing well, with the wind being a little bit blustrey and from the left a bit everyone's distances were down, i managed about 57 maybe a little less from 6 5 stride throws, which was ok and about 66 from a run up.......the pleasing thing for me was although a little disspointed at how far they went, it was the fact that when i actually wanted to throw far i threw my furthest. both james and dave are coming off hard work and have a lot of training in their legs, so timing was off a bit. my run up is perhaps on the quick side during the carry and perhaps rushes the whole throw a little but i felt as if by the end of my throwing today my run up was something which is very useable in comp, so i'm very pleased with that after only 2 sessions thinking about it, i have it sorted. technique - wise, again ok, my throwing arm is very low with the tail basically dragging on the ground [it's always been like that i'm afraid] and as a result fail sometimes to get it high over the top, but i felt on my best throw it was slightly up at the back, which was good. i will not be throwing again now before javfest, maybe a sprints sesh and a run up sesh with no throwing at all and that'll be me for javfest. in the future training wise over the next month or so i plan to really work on keeping my arm up and fixing my sightline, nothing else really and just aim to KISS, i'll be doing this by lots of running with the javelin - dry run thru's and the like - sessions were i don't even throw, just running with the javelin keeping it up at the back. i don't feel as though i need to throw a great deal really and it wouldn't bother me if i miss a couple of weeks not throwing, in the past i've gone a month between throwing and thrown only a metre less than my PB in both, so throwing isn't a problem i just need to go and get 'drilling' i think.........you see my problem is that because i haven't trained for such a long time [3 years] i'm not very strong or fast at the moment or in in condition to do so and to try and throw this time of year with the intensity that i would normally have done if i had trained all winter is tough, i get tired and fatigued quite quickly so when i do throw i have to make sure the quality is there right from the off and to only throw as and when i really want to, in the past i've found the best sesssions i have are ones where i've been gagging to throw and this is what i want to feel before i throw in training. i don't have to try and find something by throwing in great volumes as i know it's there somewhere and in the right environment it'll come, i just have to work on a few little tweaks, get in the right competition situations for stimulus and keep my back healthy and i know i'll really enjoy myself this year...........when asked today how far i expected to throw coming straight back i said "70" and perhaps got a few 'looks' and again when i said i think i'll throw a PB this year, but hey.....if you believe, then why not ;D keeping with the weightloss theme, i'm quite happy with what i'm doing and feel as though at 77kg i'll be in good shape

;D that throw was my worst one of the session from a run up and unfortunately was the only one on film, but i have to thank beepee, as i didn't even know he'd filmed it tbh! thanks bri and thank you very much for sending it so quickly. i had actually ran down and stopped just before that one as i was going to quick at the start and missing my withdrawl marker, i mean i knew straight away that it wasn't a good one [well you do don't you] and just turned away and didn't even see it land - i mean you can tell by the flight if you look that i get under it a bit. you can see what i mean about the tail being very low, so as i said earlier the plan of attack is to do lots of running and not neccesarily throwing with the emphasis on keeping it up at the back, i think if i keep it up at the back a little longer i feel it'll give me a better chance to hit it cleaner, as i do get the arm turning up and over fine - if you pause it at release though very difficult it's nice and high, you can see where the puff of chalk is actually. feet wise, i just think i do need to control it maybe a tad more during the carry, but tbh i'm not too bothered about that. overall i'm quite happy with it, after having only done a few sessions hope you guys like it! i did

ah, that reminds me!
it was this day 5 years ago that i hurt my back which has caused me so much grief, not only in my sport, but also my daily life, so to toast it, i'll be having a drink tonight to celebrate ;D

Good to see you back at it mate - get those Xovers sorted and speed up into the throw and you will be back over 70 in no time mate. Oh and a fairly good base position you had - a few youngsters on here could learn a few things from that.
