It was fun to check out also this American test. There is same idea as in javelin test but still I think that Finnish test told by Wez is better. There was some parts like 8 (standing throw position) that I didn't understand. In my opinion there is no sense of that kind of test. And other thing is that you get points instead of javelin result potential. But anyway, I evaluated my results (i'm injured) and got little over 7000 points. It might be good fun for every javelin thrower to do this kind of stuff after compseason if you still are in one piece.

the standing throw pos. from number 8 measures the distance between right foot and right hand - guess it sees how flexible you in that bow pos.
i've seen pics of it and you actually have to stand on the measuring tape with that right foot and then assume the "bow" pos - the distance between foot and hand is then measured - the closer you can reach your right foot with your throwing hand the better i guess........

About javelin test. It has given a quite good evaluation of my results. (test results are the best of the year): 2006 javtest: 73,73, my best result 74,45. 2005 javtest:75,61, my best result 76,30. 2004 javtest:72,38, my best result 72,03. 2003: jav test 72,67, my best result 72,42.
So there is no more difference than a meter in every year.

It has predicted my results also in the last 2 years to within 1 metre but sadly this year it promised me 66.36m and i've only thrown 60.70m! Its not over yet though- i'll do one more comp.

on andreas thorkildsen's website he promotes bench press for chest strengthening as [as he says] "i use the chest much in my throw" - i guess it's an excellent and possibly the best exercise for general strength in the chest and allows specific strength of the chest to be maximised..........one thing i found though was that my triceps would fail before my chest would be exhausted, especially on my left arm.

I think bench press does have its place in general conditioning training and i can think of one or two Finnish throwers too who say they are too loose to throw well if they haven't done any prior to comp. On the other hand i don't think the actual numebers you can push have any real relationship to throwing distance beyond the general correlation that stronger throwers throw further.
Bench press is usually not useful to me atall as i am generally tight anyway, but this year i've concentrated alot on flexibility and having made some big range of motion improvements i have noticed that i am getting a bit too loose. So i'm using the bench again but only as a secondary exercise to do between 'real' training sessions.

andreas has benched 180kg i believe, jerked 170kg, but is very close to 180kg apparently, snatched 125 or 127.5kg, cleaned 130kg [must be an old PB, as obviously concentrates on snatch] - so obviously a very strong guy, stronger than many javelin throwers around, infact probably one of THE strongest, but his best attributes physical capability wise are maybe his jumps i think he may have even done an 11m 3 jump, tero has for definate.........andreas also has a PB of 1.60m for jumping over a bar - now i'm unsure whether this is from a stationary position or from a run up tbh........what i'm getting at is they are all round excellent at everything with no individual "skills" out shining any others, in other words - unbelievable examples of superb all round athleticness..................AND couple this with excellent technique and the javelin flies beyond 90m.
