I guess if you have the physique, the speed, the coordination, the fitness and the power of breaux greer in this clip already...then it wont inspire you mate.Sorry dobster! but i also had to say this. ;D

I'm with Dobster and Sam on this one. How can this clip have anything to do with throwing the javelin when you can't even see his feet? Any idea where this was filmed? I reickon it could be arranged to have his airgliders nicked while he's playing Rocky!!
Aj, try to find some footage of Greer doing some "javelin related stuff". I'll argue with anyone that he's got the best arm in the business. There certainly isn't a quicker arm out there. If he ever gets fit (he seems to have had about 863 knee operations), he'll give The Thork and that gay guy from "Boy's Own" a real run for their money!
His coach, Bradstock, is a fairly interesting guy too. having been over in the UK a little while back, he's coming over again in January; I found my session with him very valuable. (I know Chris, aka LBA40, hooked up with him and The swerve as well!)
Interestingly enough the fundamentals of the "would be spearman", as he was showing me, are exactly the same as those shared by the Slinger, the Nightclub Bouncer, The Dobster, and Mick Hill. That'll do for me.
Being American though you have to expect a fair amount of "bench press" and "bag work", that's just part of their culture.

Maybe why he has so many injuries! Worth a thought AJ before you go copying some random training video and pretending you are rocky

guys.. guys.. guys.. guys.. guys! Bag work is the ultimate conditioning workout for shoulders, shoulder stability, core, arm speed, fast legs, feet(active), cardiovascular. which improves dynamicy/athleticism/explosiveness etc.. hmmm i wonder if any of the above is needed for the javelin???
I aint telling none of you guys to try this... but its nice to show the different variations of training that people will research and do to achieve their goal! And in turn i would have thought it would have influenced you guys to look at your own training prog and include something.. a little different but yet features all the same attributes of an all over body conditioning/ strenghtning/ cardiovasular exercise..even the use of things like kettlebells etc..i aint heard anyone on this site mention those as yet. Maybe its because im a personal trainer and only i understand this.
But i guess with a lot of people its the old case of 'if you do what you always do, you will get what you have always got'
Back to dobster, as far as javelin throwing goes,it has to be the most limb taxing event so with regards to injuries mate...well.... i'll let you finish the sentence. One more more thing breux has a pb of 87m+,have u?..and just 1 more incey wincey thing..whats this about pretending to be rocky- iam who i am- and rocky is about as real as the £15 note in my versace wallet that i am waiting to spend! none the less a true hero of mine who i could not even be a tenth of, we all have our heroes sir... cant wait for rocky 6!ha ha

"One more more thing breux has a pb of 87m+" yep! he does. physically, potentially capable of much more - much, much more! but maybe he'll never realise this, or fulfill it should i say........probably getting too old now [that could be controversial] of course this vid doesn't show breax's full training, so we have no idea what he does fully, unless you know him? you could even ask him on the US forum? but the vid title is....."breax greer's javelin training" so maybe that is all he does!!! that would explain his horrible left leg.........but even i'm not that naive showing a video of perhaps some javelin specific conditioning would have been more apt in a "javelin training" video..........it should have been titled "heavy bag hitting" perhaps a real javelin training video should be made...........perhaps one is? ;D anyway - rocky? of course i love it, not too keen on the first [die hard fans will say blah blah blah] but boring...........rocky 2 was by far the best.........the rest stallone was on the gear and he co- directed them, didn't he? and no..........catching chickens isn't javelin specific................AND you won't catch "grease lightning." but you will feel like a "kentucky fired idiot" man, give me strength.

Man you boys have got it wrong- i didnt say that is all he does- or anything about drills etc.. i simply put a clip on here showing a JAVELIN thrower doing summit a lil different.... and described the theory behind it. I dont know him at all, dont even know where or when he did it, but i think its great and if any you guys can work like that irrespective if you think it has no relavence in our sport, then apolgies.
As regards to runnin after chickens etc... think of it as an saq drill-you'd need to have speed, agility, and quickness...again something us javelin throwers do and need....again i aint telling you to try it.
If you dont like it dont try it simple as that.
I cant remember the sprinters name- but- he was one of britians best white sprinters. He did most of his work on a bag/speedball and very rarely did weights, this increased his speed/power output etc...
But again if you dont like it,dont try it.
train hard/eat good

We need some "stickies" here! Everyone can, and will have there "own" ideas, some right and some wrong. However, we are all entitled, whatever they may be. What we do not need are arguments about anything... I can see both sides about knocking the s h i * out of a bag, and we can all knock the relative Javelin benefits of the said excersise, but come on, lets all not judge in such a manner!? Personally, a 3k, using both hands against a wall does it for me. Good Night
