Hi guys, please see some pictures below of Slingers young protege. You can also look at the video it was taken from here: www.thejavelinclub.com/slinger3.htmlAs always I'm sure that slinger would like to hear your comments. My initial thoughts would be that I am very impressed at such a young thrower! Feel free to post your comments, James

feel free everyone to say what's good or bad or whatever............because i see it every day, you know you can sometimes miss things sam has already mentioned a couple of good points.......1. pulling the left side away early 2. not driving over the left.....
totally agree about the first point, but you can still see the athlete's left hand in frame 8 and 9, even after release, so this got me thinking, could it be that he 'finished' the throw going slightly left? a point to mention is that on the night it wasn't too cold,a slight headwind, barely anything too be honest and was the tuesday before christmas.....so the 20th of december 2005 and mike has been throwing the javelin WAY left - if there were sector lines it would be very near, especially on this throw, and i was thinking because he had a throw just as far but not quite as left but the block wasn't as good......reason i think for it not being as left was because he 'fininshed' very straight, what does everyone think, make sense???
second point about not driving over the throw but i think he does and it's something which we worked on very early in the winter and it's 'stuck ' now as last summer he'd collapse and the right would pull through underneath and if you look at frames 12 and 13 you can see the right foot 'kicking the backside' as i call it and the left foot is on the toe - this in my mind, anyway shows that the athlete has gone from the flat foot during delivery to now driving over the left as it's now extended on to the toe and if you look at frames 9 and 10 you can see the hips raising up as he drives over the left..........
the frame that does it for me though is the still in the 'bow' position - frame 7...........i spent my whole life trying to do that, i never, ever managed to do that going "full chat" like mike has done.........DAMN YOU NEPHEW!!!!!!
big thanks [again, they know what i mean] for sam and particularly james's help in doing this for me....."THANK YOU"

ha ha ha ha - big feet!!! i bought those boots [shoes really] back in the day and they never fit me.....they are a size 11, i took 10's don't know why i bought them? but they are mizuno's and are basically like high jump spikes and they are really light - dan carter wears them...[sam - ;D] shows he's going to be a big lump i think!!!! he's 13, not 14 till june and 1.80m [5'11''] - he's one of those kids who seem to have these crazy mad growth spurts, wouldn't surprise me if he's over 6' by the summer and i'll start to get flaming neck ache having to look up to talk to him!!!!!! ;D

what i mean about him not getting over the left is that his block is good with a good chest and then the point where the chest would continue to rise over the left leg it doesn't due to 2 things:
1: the left leg collapses causing the hips to drop. 2: the chest folds over the dropped hips so the arm is not following it's highest line that it could
my guess is that if you looked at the spear side on for the whole of the throw it would climb steeply towars the end as there seems to be drag on the throw caused by the two above points

very good i agree with sam on the left sidenot driving dunno but looks as tho he is falling slightly to the left on the follow through. having seen him throw at the blackpool open at the end of last season i was very impressed with the way he attacked the run up very much like his coach used to do

i know what you mean by the chest pulling left, think this is caused to be honest by the left arm, which at run off is high and pointing towards me [the camera] and then sharpley 'tugs' down........we've been working on lowering the left at run off a bit and it seems to be getting there as he's throwing more central now but i don't see any lowering of the hips - what frames do you mean? hips are bound to be lower in the 'base' as legs are wider.....

the reason his left arm does what it does is because in frame 1 2 3 4 his left hand is above his head and across his body.... all that he needs is his shoulder high.. with his hand being up there entering the run off there is only one place for his hand to go..and his hand is connected to his arm...connected to his shoulder connected to his left side..
there are things to work on to sort that out...i am having to do the same right now..
