yeah thats what i noticed to sam have you looked at the throw in slow motin and also zoomed in on it slightly you can see the left hip drop slightly.

hips are bound to be lower if you get in to a wide base - legs are wider!!! does that make sense???
the fact that you can see the left hand shows that the leftside hasn't been pulled away too much i can even see the L hand after release, but yes it is being pulled away and at the end of the day it's small margins that count......
train @ lancaster, tracks called "salt ayre" - birth place of champions!!! explain more later!!!!

yeah true it is quite a wide and long base so the hips may look lower just looks to me as tho the hips pivot slightly causing the slight drop but the main thing here is that we have only picked up minor problems and when you think of his age and the distance he is throwing as well these will be problems that can be erradicated quite easily as he continues to learn the throw. right lads got go out 4 a curry now cya laters

I'm not the best person at spotting things and can get it wrong.
I wish I could do what Mike does with base length and turning his right foot.
Is there something odd going on with his throwing arm in frame 5? It looks as though it has dropped a touch which probably started the frame before and is maybe starting to bend? I can't decide about the bend as it looks OK in the next frame.
Nice bow.

mmmmmm......curry!!!! bloody starvin' actually!!! i'll just quickly explain mike's past throwing [basically kara's watching tele and it ain't what i want to watch!!!] mike is now 13 years old and obviously will be u/15 in the summer........he started throwing things like all kids do when they young but he could throw balls etc generally further than most kids, as i used to get him to throw in a way that would benefit him most, as early as 5 and 6 years old when throwing balls or what ever i would make him throw 'like a javelin' he always wanted to go to the track and throw because of watching me throw and when the time was right i started to take him, initially it was just in the summer with cricket balls, he must have been 10 and 11, because he did some under 10's and under 11's comps [think those age groups are right?], his best was just short of 65m alas even then it was with a full run up with 5 X overs...needless to say he didn't lose any - with the rest of the kids just standing there and throwing barely getting 30m!!!! he got his first javelin, a 600g nordic viking for christmas when he was 11 and we then started to go down to the track once a week to throw he threw 30m with the 6 and 35m with 400g - nothing spectacular by any means but it showed he was doing okay and enough for him to stop playing rugby so from easter last year we started javelin training twice a week - this helped loads as it meant the feelings from tuesday were still 'fresh' for the thursday sesh, so from the start of last season he threw 39m in his first few comps. had a couple of shockers [like we all do] and suffered his first ever defeat by throwing 32m ;D ;D ;D - funny now! but it wasn't then, i'll tell you i took him to the comp on my own - bags being kicked everywhere, javelins thrown about!!!!!! "i'm packing it in!!!" - all that!!!! ;D ;D ;D - been there done that!!! and he then built his best up to 41m and he then decided it would be great fun to break his left arm!!!! - FUN!!! so he didn't throw for 8 weeks and the funny thing was when he did start to throw again [july] he was better than ever, obviously the rest did him good and he threw 42m next comp, then 43m, then 44m, there was one last comp left to do, an open at blackpool on september 25th and he'd been throwing well he'd done 48.5m with the 6 and 47.5m with the 7 so i though if he got close to 47/48m we'd be pleased as it would be a big pb and a decent result for a first year u/15...........i remember warming up with him at blackpool and saying to him "make the javelin happy send it home!!!" - happy gilmore stylee [remeber that lasher!!!!! ;D] as his nordic diana was 50m rated and i told him to make it happy ...send it 50m!!!! and we laughed about it!!!! little did i realise he would!!!! ;D he threw 50.22m and apparently according to ian hodge that made him the youngest person in the uk [new spec anyway] to throw 50m.................the throw on the vid is 55m so as you can see he's improving all the time........history has shown already with mike that every 6 - 8 weeks he has a big jump - long may that continue!!!!!! ;D ...........as a whole i've been extremely lucky to have someone so close to me being as talented as he is, as a coach it's the dream to be given a blank canvas and being given a license to do what you see fit, and this is what i have been given.....it's a very exciting time for me in my life and to be honest it's like being born again, in an event i love so much i have a way i can express myself again and thanks to mike i am doing, to this i am grateful to as without him i wouldn't be able to do this and without me he wouldn't be able to either.......he appreciates this and we are a team, i'm lucky that i have a job that means i don't have to think much about it!!! so i spend all my time thinking "how can we improve this" or "what if we tried this" etc so i think about the event a whole lot more than i used to, and i do actually learn things ALL the time - just when you think you know everything, you find something new and to be honest this website has done a lot for me, big thanks to the administers!!! anyway i'm sure you're bored of listening to a tired old slinger getting excited!!!!! time for dinner and a beer, me thinks!!!!

patience.....no the right arm is normal!!!! with the vid shot at night it's hard to see clearly especially with the sports centre lights behind!!! the right arm extraordinarily doesn't move from the first frame to even final left foot contact - hence the amazing bow.......most athletes shorten their arm a wee bit in an attempt to throw early and lose range - mike doesn't and with arms as long as his the 600g jav is nearly tucked behind his right ear!!!!!!!!! ;D

nice one! hopefully he's a 'sticker' there is talent out there - it's just getting them to keep at for a while to show that they are good is the hard part - hopefully he'll soon see that throwing javs is far better than kicking a round ball of air!!!! how are your other youngsters coming on??? you mentioned bonne was struggling because of moving.......is the situation any better?

the rest of them...well........
Emma..throwing 40m+ today Kim (recent transfer) same age as emma pb of 38m throwing 40m today Louise throwing 40m+ today Georgie...who was 14 on boxing day was throwing the 600g just short of 50m today...consistently

sam....talking of 9 year olds.............the world age best with the 400g by kimmo kinnunen is 44.90m!!!!!!! ;D
........there really are some stupidly good performances out there......the most impressive performance has to be aki parvianen's 79.00m @ 15 years old with the 700g - i think he was actually a 'proper' 1st year u/17 as well!!! - absolutely amazing!
