Hi,Sharpey, Phil here. Who do you think I am? It's definitely not a secret. I think I have dropped enough clues! Look back at some of my previous posts.

Correct. Glad you are enjoying married life. Kara is a lovely girl and a superb thrower. She's in the right 'club' there anyway. Your coaching seems to be going well. Keep your nephew off the BEER though. Congratulations to Kara on her selection for Melbourne. We are both going. Are you? Don't worry about the record- breaking javelin-I wasn't serious. Was it the Nordic that the second record was set with? I remember Apollo making those experimental javs about 1996. It was one of those that David threw over 74m at Don Valley in the English Schools' but the official fouled it. I was in a position to crouch down and watch it's landing and it definitely nosed down in the last second. The flag man did not crouch down. The shame of it was that at least he threw the jav that far and it was fouled out. I think throwing floaty javelins like that gets an unfair response from officialdom. The rules are incorrect in those instances. Remember the Old Spec. 800. They were treated with a lot more leniency- they had the same flight capabilities and when Uwe Hohn threw one 104m landing flat and skidding the judges did not foul it and the rulemakers just changed the C of G for safety reasons. There was no danger from the 700g landing flat or flattish at 70-75ms. If you look at the U17 lists for the 700g and the OS 800g the distances for those throwers that threw both were almost the same. cheers Phil

yeah, i believe gary jensen threw the 700 and 800 72m @ u/17 so yes they are very similar. mike'll stay off the beer, probably onto whisky or vodka!!!!!! Kara's doing well, she's looking for some kind of sponsership from local buisness allowing her to work part-time, this should allow her more time to see simon! and maybe throw even further!!! i don't think i'm going to melbourne though which is a shame but i've had my holiday time from work till april 2006!!! with the wedding and that! but i'm sure she'll cope without me - she usually does!! question is how will i cope all that cooking............i'll be round at my mums i think! i know dan carter has the age 14 best with the 700g, but is there a age 13 best surely there is as it's perfectly possible to be an under 15 throwing in an under 17 competion???

Phil, there is a list for Age records with various javs as well as the Age Group records and lists. (there is a difference) The Lists are at www.gbrathletics.comcheers Phil

There is no recorded Age 13 record with the 700g so perhaps Mike, your nephew, can be the inaugural record holder. Unless of course anyone else knows different. One oddity that I have noticed. Under 15s according to the Rules of Athletics are ineligible to throw the 800g in competition yet there are some recorded performances in the record lists of U15s doing just that. cheers Phil

well spotted phil! i spoke to dave about this as i didn't think u/15's were allowed to compete as seniors, i certainly wasn't when i was at lancaster and morecambe as they were desperate for me to do the northern mens league!!! so i've ben on the gbr site before! it would have been interesting to see how far david could of thrown the 700g as a youth as i'm sure they now do world lists for that age group?!?
your probably right my nephew [mike] could get an 'unofficial' age 13 best with the 700g, as he's not 14 till june 18th 2006!!! maybe we'll even have a crack at dan's age 14 best whilst were at the year after, but we'll have to wait and see!!! he might get fed up with it and play cricket like most of the youngsters these days!!!!

good i'm not a cricket fan! they all reckon they can throw that little red ball further than us!!! no chance! what do you reckon?

Best cricket ball thrower among us is Chris Hughff although Ben Houghton beat him on the golf ball throw. At the last javfest, ben threw the golf ball about 127m but reckons he can throw further. Hughff threw about 119m with his spinning technique. The world record still stands at 120m for the golf ball! We should really organise something to break that?
Also, for an earlier post, you're right: Its not possible for an U15 to compete as a senior but is possible for an U15 to throw and overweight javelin in competition. The UK recored for an U15 with an 800g javelin was set in an U17 competition last year.

That then begs the question; why were the u17s throwing an 800g jav in competition?

as far as i'm aware u/15's aren't allowed to compete as seniors, so when i found out that there was a uk record for it i asked dave [parker] and he also thought the same as me! as for an u/15 throwing a 800g in an u/17 comp how does that figure surely they were chucking 700's!!! it can't of been an u/17 comp were they all threw 800's could it? this then surely would be classed as a senior competition? then therefore u/15's not allowed to compete!!! don't get me wrong i have no problem with the record or there even being such a thing but i wasn't given an oppertunity to do this, not that i'd of thrown 50m!!! but maybe other would have if this occurance is more well known as i'm sure that not many people realise this is possible!! man i'm confused
