Sam can probably best explain this but as far as I am aware Bonne was the only person in the competition to throw the 800g jav and the others threw 700s. This was accepted by the officials and I guess the sole aim of doing it was to set a record.

You and me both. Phil. When David was an U15 it was expressly forbidden for him to throw the 800. Perhaps someone arranged a special Comp for U17s to throw with the 800 so that it enabled u15s to have a go. In the early years when David started with Scarborough Harriers the club only had three javs, an OS 600, a 700 and an Apollo 800. So in every throwing session you threw all three. If it did nothing else at least it succeeded in giving David the ability to handle the 800 at an early age. I think he threw over 27m with it in practise when he was just 12.

that type of competition seems abit odd!!! is that actually possible??? my next question is did the officials know what they were doing???!!!! phil, i actually never even wanted to do a senior competition anyway!!! as my little hands couldn't grip the thing and the tail dragged on the floor!!! perhaps someone with 'real' knowledge of the rules could shed some light, all i know is not to cross that little curved white line at the end!!!!!

I know for a fact that Mick Hill holds the official British Record for the Cricket ball throw with 126.52m.
Michael Allen would be able to give it a good slap along with Ben I know that. I remember doing some ball throwing at Lilleshall back in the early days of my National squad career and Michael was throwing balls a long way!
Personally the last time i threw a cricket ball for distance was when I was 16. I had a throw of just under 110m measured at school. That was back when My Jav pb was 68.26 with the 800, so i would expect I could throw at least 15-20m further now.
Given that I have thrown 65.60 standing with the 8 and 38.70 with a 2kg ball I would participate in a cricket ball comp should it be organised!
Wouldn't touch a golf ball though. Way too light for me and pictures flash through my mind of the golf ball landing with my arm still attached at the other end of the field!

I remember you throwing all my bamboo garden canes out of the parish. It took me ages to gather them all up!!! And there were a lot of them. I haven't forgiven you yet!!!! Regarding throwing cricket balls that was the only trhing I was any good at throwing but it was so long ago I cannot remember distances. Long enough ago to be measured in feet and inches so about 240 ft ! Sounds a long way to all you youngsters doesn't it?

if people were up for the challenge a cricket ball comp would be good, mick record could be in danger!!! chris hughff is SUPPOSED to be good, well i'd put £20 on parker winning that one, despite mike and ben both being good, dave isn't called "lasher" for no reason!!!!!!! this new guy mervin ?? is supposed to have a bit of a slap, but i'd wager that in the uk nobody can touch parker........remember people i have witnessed THE POWER!!!!!!

In the Wisden Cricketers' Almanack!( Yes being a proud Yorkshireman I have been known to follow cricket as well) there is a section that covers throwing the cricket ball. In 1884 a Mr R Percival threw a cricket ball on the Durham Sand Racecourse a distance of 140 yards 2ft. By my doubtful calculation in throwing 126.52 metres only threw 413'8''. 140yds 2ft =422ft. So which is the British record?

i've been thinking...................yeah i know what you're thinking phill sharpe and thinking - could be dangerous!!!! that's what being a postman does to you walking or driving round aimlessly you get to think a lot.....a very lot!!! well this u/15 uk record with the 800g javelin isn't quite phrased correctly there is only one uk u/15 record and that's 58. something or other with the 600g, what there are though are age bests and remember people these are not the same!!! i still believe that from my understanding is that an u/15 boy cannot compete in a senior competition so no u/15 boys should ever be able to compete in a senior competition [unless rules have changed?] however a 14 year old boy can compete as a senior athlete and therefore a uk age 14 best with the 800g being available, i'll explain.... a boy who's birthday let's say, falls in june like my nephew's does could be 14 and be a first year u/17 athlete and competes in say may and then therefore could legally compete as a senior athlete!!! this then means he's eligable for a uk age 14 best!!! you see, phill sharpe's not just a pretty face!!!!!
