I know we all have our own javs.... some nore expensive than others, but we have all spent our own money!
When I lived in France, they have the same rules as IAAF, in that if a jav has been entred in to a comp, any one can use it. I found that a right pain.
I don't mind someone useing my jav as long as I can trust them. I know it's not right, but I get really pissed off when some one I don't know wants to use one of mine.
In the French champs, I had an arguement with all of the officials, as I used two javs, and some of the little f@#%ers kept on knicking them in the warm up.
My question is.... when does the comp start.... from when you step on to the track... or when the first measured throw has been thrown.
Has any one else had that problem. I mean.. I did go and pay £1000 for my 3 OTE's so someone else can go and throw them landing tail first.

i always ask if i can borrow peoples javs, they say no no big deal (like Sam said dont ever let them use one of yours if they ask ;D). like wise as long as people ask me i dont mind them using mine aslong as its there for my throw. just say to them YOU BREAK IT YOU BUY IT usually makes them think twice before asking again lol

Its usually in league matches where its the problem....as you often get guys who throw just to get points, so they think if they throw the best javs there gonna throw further. There aint nothing worse then watching a £400-£500 jav bouncing tail first along the floor.

I asked an official at our club how we stand with this.
Apparently if it is UKA rules then you do not have to allow any one to use your javelin. If it is IAAF then the javelins are put in a pool for anyone to use.
In UKA the technical officer can insist that the javelin is kept with all the others as soon as you have it checked. He/she need not return it to you until he has satisfied himself that all javelins have been returned at the end of the competition. This is unlikely to be followed during league competitions but it is up to the official on the day.

this rule is a load of s**t. There is no rule saying that if u have ur own javelin u have to let other people use it. If a officer says to u that u have to allow people in the comp to use ur javelin then all you need to do is ask to see the rule book showing this rule. He or she will then change there mind. This is because there is no such rule.

I agree the rule is **** that is why UKA changed it & therefore it wont be in their rule book. This was not just for javelin but all throws.
The IAAF is something else. Your javelin is in a pool.

Yeh, IAAF rules say, once a javelin has been entered in to a competition, anyone can use them. UKA says you can keep your jav to your self.
At the AAA's they put a sticker on the jav, and all the javs are kept in the rack. When you are called to throw you take your jav and they make sure you take the one with your name on. Come to think about it they did that at the souths.
The IAAF rules and the same as the FFA (France) rules.
What you can do though is (maybe just for the guys).... when you are throwing...... spit on your hand in front of everyone and rub it in to your grip. There will be a brave person who will want to use your jav.

There's always goona be some official who likes to make up there own rules....i'm not sure of all the rules myself, which is why i always question a problem. I was told off last year for spraying tackey on my javs and was told that i'm not allowed to used it.....i didnt see the problem, whats the harm, this official was going on like it was some magicial spray to make my jav go further.

I've been caught out by the spraying of tacky on the grip also. One of the competitors in the competition complained to the official about me using it (must of felt threatened by a throw of 35m . I did check this with one of the club officials and she showed me the rule in her rule book. Can't remember the exact words but it basically says that can not put anything onto the grip but you may put it onto your hand. In other words you can spray the tacky onto your hand (which then transfers it onto the grip which is ok!!!!!). Watch the pro's when they throw & see the technique to stay within the rules.

Gamey is spot on with the sparying of tacky. The rule is that nothing can be sparyed or be put on to the grip of the javelin. But tacky can be used and sprayed on to the hand that you throw with nothing can be done about this.

Tackey is something to give you some extra grip on the jav, i use a spray which is actually for pictures but there is quite a few different forms you can get.
