I think lots of jav throwers use it in various forms. Most visible is the Magnesium Carbonate as it is a white powder & you see them grab a handfull in competitions.
The one I use is the picture mount spray made by3M. It costs about £3.50 in Tescos - I would guess places like WH Smith would also stock it. It is a bit of a pain to wash off after though. Never used any of the others so it would be interesting to see which one is considered to be the best.
It does give a better grip especially when conditions are wet.

I've always used the spray.....i'm not a big fan of chalk as i always tend to get it everywhere expect on the jav.
Also the grip on my airglider is thin, so i find that the spray works best.
Gamey, i find that if you spray on the jav then rub the grip between the plams of your hands it takes the stickyness off and it dont come off on or hands....i also tape my finger up so if any spray does come off it just goes on the tape....before i use to spend ages trying to scrub if off my hands.

Ok this might sound excpetionally girlie but I do like the physio sport grip stuff (its designed mainly for racket sports) and have used it since it came out. Youve got to keep reapplying to your fingers / hand but it does smell very nice !

I use the paper mount spray before, but moved on to chalk. I find the tacky mess's uop the grip after using have the javfor a while and the chalk keeps the grip dried out. I dohate it when someone else uses tacky and then goes and uses my jav directly afterwards. When I threw for England in Ireland, Terry McHugh threw and he uses alot of it.
I had to get a lot of chalk on to the grip and rub it down a bit before it felt right again.
Ooooohhhhh I'm sooo protective about my javelins... what a big girl. Never mind. I just like everything to be just right on competition day.
