agree that the info on weightloss said here is good stuff and tbh i have been reading a few mens health type magazines lately and the info just in this thread is very similar to what they recommend from their experts.
you can do it sam, like i said it's all about organisation - if you lead a busy lifestyle and find that take-aways and eating out are convenient, then for me it's best that you make your own meals and get things ready for the day ahead before you go to work, this could be getting your breakfast organised to your mid morning snacks and your lunch every day.
consistency will bring you the results you want.
i read somewhere or was told that it takes 3 weeks to get into or break a habit, try it for 3 full weeks and be strict, so if you only want to eat 2000 cals a day for example stick to it and then you'll get the results you want.

A good starter for you mate would be to cut out the soft drinks, just drink water or dilutable stuff instead, there are loads of hidden calories in soft drinks and tbh your body only wants water to keep hydrated. Try to get out of the habit it will help alot. If you are the sort of person who can't bear to just drink normal tap water, then why not try sparkling water or fancy mineral stuff.

Sugar free soft drinks are a bit like soft drugs they always lead onto the harder stuff

why have diet coke when just had chips with it, i could miss one meal and lose 4or 5 pounds no problems, whats up with , baked potatoes, chicken, tuna in brine, boiled fish, boiled rice, things like that you should be eating every 3 hours , carbs and protein, in each meal say 4 to 5 meals a day say 100g rice , 100 protein each meal s try this for 4 weeks and you will lose weight and for once a week say on sundays eat what you want for just one hour then back on your diet all the best lee see you on sat , and if you want i can write you a diet, i know all about diet i was in the british finals some year a go for bodybuilding.

Sounds like a step in the right direction Sam but try and look at the foods you eat as well. Sausages are not "meat" but are processed meat and rubbish too. Try to eat chicken, turkey etc in the evenings if you can so lots of protein and much less fat than a suasage.
I also think you should look to making more of what you enjoy eating. You love cooking stir-fry dishes and with the right ingredients and little use of oil and sauces you can make something you'll really enjoy and without too many calories or too much fat.
There's loads of good advice in here - particularly what Lee and Dobster have written with evidence of it working!

everyone knows salad is healthy and tbh on it's own can be a bit boring and tasteless.......
but salad has been probably the biggest factor in me losing so much weight, what i do is buy mixed salad leaves in the salad i add stuff like normal lettuce, grated carrot, cucumber, pickled onions and cress etc and i put all sorts with it to make up the bulk of my meals - stuff like prawns, chicken breast [done on the george foreman] steak [again on the george foreman!] and fish fillets like salmon or trout with the salad is great, also try different dressings for your salad to add different tastes, at the mo with the fish and chicken i like a light lemon and pepper dressing, with my prawns sometimes a little thousand island or a new one i have got from blue dragon i think which is sweet chilli [wicked with prawns]
i eat a salad for my lunch and dinner btw and i haven't eaten white rice or pasta or potatoes or chips for a while now, only brown rice every now and then.
as you can tell there are very little carbs in my diet really, i have found that if i eat for breakfast foods loaded with carbs and that have a low GI then you get a steady release of energy and i'm fine on that for the rest of the day - i do not feel tired, even when i train.
i do have a sweet tooth and love sweets, chocolate and cakes, but i have found that if you go without for a few days then you soon don't miss them, it's exactly the same with beer.

Here's my twopenny worth for those that wish to change their weight, up or down.
1. Be sensible, think long term and create in your mind a feeling of lifestyle change. Don't think of losing/gaining weight. Think of changing your lifestyle. The weight thing is just a "result" of this.
2. Don't commit to anything too drastic, don't give up anything, or take up anything that you can't see yourself doing for life.
3. Plan what and when you eat, eat what and when you planned.
4. Plan what and when you exercise, excercise what and when you planned.
5. Use a diary for 3 and 4. So plan a week in advance and tick off/fill in as you go. Fill in the "treats" first. This will help plan the correct eating/training coincidences, as well as make sure you eat regularly and evenly throughout the day and not eat too much too late at night.
6. Remember to enjoy the experience because you are doing it to have a better lifestyle.
7. Everyone's different and has different goals (lifestyle goals), so everyone needs a different plan. While there are some basic facts (and myths!) about how to change weight it's mostly attititude and maths.

Hi i just wanted to make a comment about this issue. I have been throwing javelin for about 4 years ( i am now 17) but i had to stop from 2004 to mid 2006 because i suffered from anorexia. It was very serious and i went down to 70 pounds (around 32kg) although i am 5ft 1. I did not even know when it properly started because i was not intentionally trying to lose weight. I could not even see myself losing weight, it was only when i got photos back that i saw how back it had gotten. I have put back on the weight now but because the therapy i was given did not work, i now suffer from bulimia. (Figures have shown that half of people with anorexia go on to develop bulimia.) Well i got back into throwing and i am now throwing around 29m. Anyways thats enough of my life story lol.. i guess talking about this issue seems to help me somehow.. like get some of it off my chest as i dont really talk about it to anyone.

Thanks Finchfan. It takes a lot of hard work and determination to overcome anorexia and as you say, many of the people who have been anorexic develop bullemia. I hope that you are as successful in overcoming the bullemia as you have been with the anorexia. If you do only one thing, please look after your teeth (you will know what I mean).
For those that aren't aware (and there can't be that many), people with bullemia appear to eat normally and healthily. Unfortunately, they tend to be sick shortly after meals. Bullemia can be more difficult to spot than annorexia as there aren't the tell tale signs of missing meals or eating less. I would say that bullemia is more an individual battle with yourself and your confidence or happiness whilst anorexia is often a way of exerting some form of control over your life.

Hi there Finchfan, its always hard to talk about stuff like that but you've proved you have good character and self confidence to come on the forum to discuss it. Patience said there are throwers out there who've suffered from eating disorders although in my experience it has normally been the other way around as you might have gathered from the earlier posts in this thread. I've also heard before that anorexia can be a way for some people to exert a level of control in their lives. What do you think caused it in your case? Well i hope our ramblings don't offend you and maybe getting back into javelin training can even give you a helping hand with your current battle. I certainly find it to be a healthy distraction from my own worries.

diverting off topic here a tad, but since throwing again i have found that it has allowed me to vent my feelings in a way that i haven't been able to do for a few years. everyone has their own problems and struggles through out life, i won't discuss my problems on a forum though!!!!!! ;D i'd love to tell everyone but they aren't family friendly .........but throwing gives me a chance to escape from them. i hope other people find their throwing does the same anf they can escape for a few hours but certainly finchfan, you have alot of pairs of ears on here that will help all they can
