I am thinking of getting a few Nordic and or Nemeth overweight Javelins. 1000 and 1300g weights.
Is it worth paying the money for these or sticking with medi balls?

I know I know...... listen, if I did DIY of ANY sort, even if it is sticking a bit of tape on, bad things will happen! Lets forget the cost, would the answer still be the same? ;D

If you do decide to buy them try Stadia Sports they have some in their clearance section. They dont update their website very often though so they might already be gone. I know this because I bought one of the 800gm Laser's at the ESAA from a company who had cleared Stadia out of them! Link below: www.stadia-sports.co.uk/clearanceitems.asp?title=clearance%20items

You need to be quite a beast to throw a 1300g really, but you probably need to ask yourself first if your technique is good enough atm to take the extra jav weight. If not then stick to the medball and overhead shot for now.

My technique is 5 months old so maybe not best to go for the 1300. I do throw 1.5 and 2kg into a basketball backplate, but not at full pelt. My biggest weakness, I believe, is my arm. It is just not quick enough so that is the area needed for most improvement. Would I be right in saying I need to do some light work too, to better my arm speed?

Absolutely yes, underweight implements complimetn overweight ones. Infact i might say that to begin with use mostly underweight balls and 800g balls, but it needs to be exactly as a jav throw. If you start with heavy balls now you will probably end up throwing them in a different way to cope with the extrta weight. Don't try to run before you can walk etc

Isn't one of the best ways to increase your "arm speed" to work on the end phase you your throw so that you have decent momentum that comes to a sudden stop. The "arm speed" takes care of itself after that.

That would defiantely increase the release velocity and yes actual speed the arm moves at but i think he is talking about having a slow arm in general. That is something most of us throwers have to begin with. I noticed i had good arm speed from lobbing a tennis ball about as a kid, then lateron a cricket ball. If this is what you are refering to Mr lifebeginsat40 then maybe just head down to some field or park and try chucking a cricket ball as far as you can from standing and then off a few cross steps. Throw it like a jav over your shoulder (not whipping round the side like cricketers) and see how far you can get it. When you can spank it out to 70m+ you will definately have discovered some arm speed. Throwing a light ball like that doesn't require much actual strength or anything only the ability to get your arm to move very quickly over a longish pulling distance.

Have you guys ever heard of match throwing? World record is little under 39m and WR-holder is Jorma Kinnunen. His son Kimmo just tried to broke his dad's record in one Finnish tv-show called "ennätystehdas" (record factory). It haven't been broadcasted yet. It will come out 1.10 in mtv3. well, you guys can't propably watch it except you wez.

petsku, can you elaborate a little more on "match throwing" top man! elaborate on "match throw" or topman? I think that match means those little sticks made of wood that you can use to make fire. Topman, Jorma is previous WR holder also in javelin (92,70 in 1969) and silver medalist in olympics in Mexico -68. His son Kimmo is World Champion from Tokio -91 (and he is also my coach)
