The subject has come up a bunch of times about throwing javelins or balls of different weights etc so here is an article involving some research on the subject. www.pponline.co.uk/encyc/0325.htmAs far as i can tell the conclusion was if you throw over weight implements it will increase your specific strength and increase the muscle mass, but if you throw under weight implements it will help to recruit fast twitch muscles to the specific area. It is best to use both over and under weight in combination. Weight variations should be up to 20% and most importantly you must use the same technique as with your normal weight implement or you will be concentrating on different muscle groups and it will not benefit you. Cricket ball throwers be warned! I've been doing it in training this year and i do think it helps

don't really know if it's comparative to jav [probably not, as the movements completely different] but a test was done with baseball pitchers group 1. just threw regular weight ball, group 2 threw different weight balls......the test was done for X amount of time and the guys who threw different weight balls had actually increased the release speed of the balls, where's the guys just throwing regular baseballs didn't or by no-where near as much........ i would always include both over and underweight implement training, but my feelings are that unless it's being used to highlight a technical point it must be done at near maximal effort in the most specific way possible to get the most reward, would others agree? it was a point i raised during the cricket ball debate that i feel it would be a very beneficial exercise for some individuals - again i stress that the specificity of the way the ball is thrown is key for it being beneficial mind! it's no good running up and slinging [ ] it if you don't do that with a spear................sigh, then again we can't all be slingers! ;D

I throw a 700g in training and a javelin ball, my nemeth Javelin is heavy it's 644 grms!! my lightest Javelin is 607 grms

robyn, 644 is extremely heavy for a new 600g javelin.........i'd suggest complaining to nemeth about it tbh or maybe even the suppliers you obtained it from - sam says nemeth don't do english, so the suppliers could be the ones.
.......i've said quite a few times before that some javelin makes are notorious for making javelins inconsistently, for some reason i don't know some are heavy and some don't even feel the same when thrown - as if they haven't different flexes yet they are meant to be the very same javelins.........nemeth are big culprits of this - yeah, they makes some cracking spears but you could be unlucky and get a dodgy one.
....nordic however are very consistent in there jav making and churn spears out that are exactly the same as the last, so you deffo know what you are getting when you buy one.

Yeah I should complain!!! The only good thing about that Javelin is that it flys nice!!!! It's only a 40m Javelin.
