I've noticed a common theme popping up from time to time in different threads and that is; i've just come back from an awesome training session where i........... but there was no-one els there to see it. So let me get the ball rolling, i just bought a 1000g Pollanik training jav and took it for a session last friday. I had been lifting weights and training hard all week so didn't expect anything. BUT i lobbed the thing over 50m about 10 times and 54-55m 3 times. Then i picked up my old faithful apollo lazer 800g and launched it out to 64m and a whole cascade of 58-64m throws. Neither jav is balanced for long throws so they were sticking in the ground almost vertical. I just had to tell someone about it because its so unusual for me, for 2 reasons. Firstly i almost never throw far in training, i've only been over 60m in training a handful of times 62m being the best. Secondly i never throw far after training hard and especially after weight lifting. and of course there was no-one else there to see it...

I hate it when that happens, one time there was a flock of geese circling over in a delta formation above me and they were annoying me so i picked up a 600 and managed to pierced everyone of them on it careful picking a time when all the geese were in the same vector. I always seem to throw better with underated javelins :S at U15 I won the schools with a 40m rated one and this year my best jav seems to be a beet up old yellow jav as aposed to my pegasis which others are throwin over 60 so far ive thrown that pegasis about 49 :S Is it good throwin the 1000g? what are they like longer than 800 or just fatter? Never had the pleasure myself... reckomend a youngern getting one?

Nice one on the Goose hunting, thats how most of the high street places get their kebabs you know- except i think they mainly go for pigeons. ;D Hmmm underated Javs flying far eh... do you normally throw better in headwinds too? I used to suffer from the same trouble. I think it was caused by tailing flights. Cos they are nose heavy it corrects the flight a bit- hence when you throw a more balanced jav the tail continues to drag and you give away meters. Food for thought atleast..... If that is the problem though it can be corrected by being taller in the throw. About overweight javs, The 1000g is basically identical in spec to a regular 800g jav except its heavier. The only discernable difference is that the grip is closer to the point than comp javs so it tends to nose dive early but that at least helps prevent nasty elbow spankage in the delivery. I wouldn't reccomend a youngun chucking those until you are a bit more physically mature. The 800g should be quite adequate for overweight training at the moment. When you get to the 800g age group spend a year or so getting used to that weight before you seek heavier javs. Unless of course you are already a beast. I'm heavy and slow (atm) so it suits me ok- infact i bet if it were balanced for longer throws it would fly to simliar distances in my case.

jamie, i'd try and get used to throwing the 800g as soon as possible mate......physically there'll be no problems for you as you are more than big enough and strong enough.......the main problem i found was that it just felt massive in length and because of the much thicker grip abit awkward - i started when i was your age now and when i got one [nordic champ] i couldn't throw it all - tbh i didn't have a clue how i was going to do it!!!.......time spent doing that now will minimise the time you'll take to get used to it, so in the winter your time will be more beneficially used........at the end of the day it's good specific strength work for you anyway.

Ahha i usualy try a few throws in training if no comps are coming up, get them as far/further as my 7's but training is training.... gonna start fairly seriously on 800's when schools are over cause I'm sure 700's are lovely people but I don't really get along with them cause not really had to chance to have a propper season with them but o well.
Buying a 800- Ima do this alot more causiously than my 700, so far my pegasis has gone 49 for me :S ye it's a gd javelin in theory and other people have done well with it this season but not me....
Looking into maybe geting a £54 one that Scater drew to my attention just so I got my own 800 and then hoping to try out other people decents 800s at things like javfest..

you see.......tape works! i'm a cello tape man myself - very shiny surface - offers less drag you see and it's for this reason why i stay clear of that plaster type tape you can get, which has a very rough surface and causes much drag, some other tapes i have used around my javelin include....."police marking off area" tape, a 100m steel measuring tape [in hope it would go 100m], a tape cassette of R kelly's " believe i can fly" in the hope the javelin would [and it did - 100m actually] and lead tape....which tbh made it like a very long and narrow shot putt .........however all of these pre-mentioned "tapes" worked wonders [except the lead tape] and actually create large quantities of lift.

I'm off training again so more fairy tales to be expected+ i will be trying a new tape of my own. Tape worm.... although i'm not how sure this will benefit me in the long run as i've already lost 5 stone and am suffering from some nasty stomach bloatage.
