check out this post made this week on a US jav forum. the post was from tom petranoff. former world recoerd holder who threw the old spec jav 99m. so if you think your fit and strong check out the shape tom and co were in in the 1980's ... this is some seriously scary stuff !
Thanks for comments.. I have always focused on block and follow threw....I worked it into my drills and runups and hosedrags....I can lead you to the water but can't make you drink....I have said this many times on this forum that the technique will come with the core strength and drills. run threws/hose drags/ every other day---17 years. that rythem you admire is from 1000's and 1000's per year...everyone is different and you must find cadence and keep agresssive--yet relax so you can find the block and and post it....It's not a 3 month drill....it takes years to develope...I threw 80 meters in my 1st 6 weeks.....90 meters took 5 years and 99.72m took 3 months....If you want my workout schedule, email me and I show you what we did for 17 years....I have had many athletes blown away at how tough we really were in 80's...remember that we were pro athletes--getting $100-200k per year to throw...
Core strength-----test yourself---here is my PR's
1. hand stand walking for 57 meters in my prime--PR
2. 12 flat 100m electric at 100 kilos in weight
3. 12'6 pole vault
4. 175 discus---no training
5. 179'11 left handed PR jav throw in meet at Cal st north
6. 25 flat 50 meter swim--with turn---superstars-1984
7. 575lbs squat---360 clean---260 snatch--360 back jerk
8. extreme danger plyometrics---we did things no one would
9. threw 25- 30 meets for 15 years----
10. cartwheels both ways end over end like gymnastics
11. overhead shot 16lbs ----68 feet---roggy was 73 feet
try throwing 16 pound shot backward and then you will see how much core strength you have...
12...sledge hammer--250 multi direction hits 2 times per week for 17 yrs
not many do sledge hammer drills and shame---wonder why they can't find bump at block...the shoulder is too weak to handle stretch reflex....sure other world class throwers don't use it -----but I don't care about what they did. This drill is big help and 3 months after Matt Maloney started he bumped 30 ft further... then stalled because he forgot to keep up his core strength----stopped doing it and he struggled---again ---take it or leave it....Hard work and training smart is my theory and it worked for me.
