What type of training is everyone doing at the moment at the track? I've stayed clear from the track since my knee operation but feel that I am fit enough to start the drills, running and throwing now. What sort of things are people doing at the moment and how often are you doing them?

I'm doing two running sessions a week. One track session which is usually something like 3 x 3 x 200 or 150, 200, 250, 300 and back with a max 2min recovery between reps and 5mins between sets all in flats not spikes, it's much kinder to your feet!
My other running session is off track doing hills, steps, longer reps upto 800m etc. usually try and stay off the road although thats not easy once the dark nights draw in.

There is good reasons behind my track work firstly I'm coaching an U17 2/300m runner so have been doing some training sessions with her and secondly if I don't do the hard work at this time of year when i get my spikes on for the short, sharp work later in the winter and into the spring my body will just crumble and fall apart!
Rob, if you're struggling with your knees after running try and keep off the road and track and stick to the grass and make sure you've got a good pair of running shoes. If you can find a decent shop they should be able to do an analysis on your feet to make sure you get the right support, it can make a huge difference.

sorry rob the internets been off for about a week..........
.......you see when we first got the PC we only got internet access on a pay as you use basis, which was fine because it worked out at around £6 a month!!! i just got my phone bill and for the last quarter it was £179 - £110 on the internet alone - man those 210 posts have cost me!!!! but never mind!!! any way i decided that this wasn't going to happen next month so i got it sorted to pay monthly, which would be far better BUT when setting up the account i changed the internet password and username with out remembering what i changed it to!!!!!!! D'OH!!! so it took this long to finally ring up virgin and find it out!!!!!!!!!

the sites gone quiet again for the last day or so, not too many posts but i have seen lots of people on line though! come on chaps/chapess'ssssss!!!!! don't be so boring! this original post was all about track training so i'll continue that.............. firstly has anyone started throwing outside, or have we not stopped? ? when i was throwing it was only my last sort of year before injury where i stopped throwing completey till after christmas, up till then from being 13 to 21 i always threw all winter - quite often we'd be the only ones on the track the weather was so awfu!!!! but when i was young i was taught there's no substitute for throwing and for the young and intermediate spear chuckers that is the best advice i'll ever give! if we are throwing what type of throwing are we doing, is it off short approach's, is it off a fuller approach but with control or is it 100mph balls out stuff!!!!!! are we throwing heavier javs, are they even javs, maybe they are balls? ?? what ever you are doing it would be good to see................

We hardy folk in the north throw outside all year round freezing our proverbials off, not like those softies at luffenstagborough who have inside central heated facils until it snows this weekend we are doing easy peasy throwing getting into the correct positions which usually resembles gathering around a cuppa soup and picking the odd javelin up or so. If and when it snows we will be changing our sessions into "lets slap the coach with a few snowballs" followed by me doing some "lets slap the swines with my scarf" all good stuff and how else could you get them running and throwing for 2hrs trying to take one anothers eyes out with the snowballs? roll on the white stuff I say ;D

someone mentioned snow! is it forecast for the w/end??? bring out the sledge............another good tip is if you can't find a sledge or you can't be bothered to make one get a large tray and put it in a bin liner!!! or even better get in a heavy duty bin liner! - you feel all the rocks but it doesn't matter - you're having fun!!!! ;)and remember that when you can't feel your fingers anymore and your legs are buggered from 16,000 trips up and down a hill the size of everest!!!!!!!!! ;D
"those were the days!"

Not fair. I want snow. We hardly ever get it here. We've been back throwing since the middle of October. One night we had to wait whilst the fox kept running up to our javelins when they landed. As for track - 2 sets of 6 back to back 100m at the moment. Legs are a bit goosed for days afterwards. Still, there will be rewards.

Doing about 8-10 sessions a week
prob about 5 weights, two of those are olympic lift sessions(not too heavy mind)a circuit, a track and a bounding are all normals. have thrown once since sep! But am about to add med ball sessions to the end of every weight just i don't get too slow. Track sessions are fave coz they are easy!! Blessed with lond legs (gazelle like limbs). And also probably some tecnical sess's are a must!!
