Hi every one! This is my first season of javelin throwing and despite the lack of progress in distance , i am thoroughly enjoying it. Apart from athletics i am also a keen rugby player, and now that the rugby season is underway it is staring to interfere with my javelin schedule. After a long strenuos rugby match, i feel weak and tired and then very sore the morning after especially in my trapz, shoulders and triceps. I remain sore after for about 3-4 days which usually overlaps with javelin training days and competitions, which i feel is affecting my performance. Could anyone give me any advice on how to minimize recovery time, and if exercising sore muscles bad for you?

Hi jaffa, The throwing season will be finished in the next week or so which will mean the need to throw will not be necessary fro a number of months. This should aid the problem. In general, rugby training is supportive of the general requirements of throwing. I would suggest that you may not be warming down effectively after games if you are that sore To early into the bar ;D ;D ;D If you can get to a good sports massage therapist then good quality massage can really help. Look on the LSSM (London School of Sports Massage) site to find a therapist near you. - they are the best trained in the bisiness. good luck
