Ok can't remember things exactly but something like this:- 14yrs - 12m 15yrs - 22m 16yrs - 30m (great so far lol) 16 - 18- Still around 32 down to 30m meters. I had a knee injury and they changed the spears 19yrs - Back up to over 32 meters 20 / 21yrs - Dissertation year 31m I've thrown 30m ish ever since although stopping training may have something to do with it combined with coaching and working full-time in the sport! I do still some times wonder what if but theres been times particularly when I was 16 & 18yrs the sport stopped being fun because almost everyone expected / wanted something. If it wasnt for a couple of individuals I wouldnt have picked up that spear again. I only throw now when I want to because of that.

Hey susie I was speaking to your coach, Les a couple weeks ago and he reckons if you ever get serious you will be a sure contender for 2008 oly`s, so get serious and lets see that 50 sooner rather than later, injuries permitting of course.

That's just an urban myth.....was he drinking at the time? I train with him sometimes but I'm down at Enfield with Woffy, I'm in my last year at uni...so it's going on a backburner at the mo. Don't be spreading those filthy rumours about me!

I'd be interested to know what you consider to be the factors that gave you the gains. Was is just growing stronger, improving technique, ambition, inspiration? How much of a factor was the coaching, i.e. your coach, to helping you. My distances are (late starter 1999 M40 0m 2000 M40 20m 2001 M40 28m 2002 M40 35m 2003 M40 35.63m 2004 M40 Can I get over 40m??? Always inspired by Woffy. My claim to fame is managing to get him to throw against me - he beat me but knackered himself for months ;D

When I began secondary school, I was lucky because my P.E teacher threw the javelin before so she taught me the correct technique. Which was really lucky! The increase in distance was mainly due to growing up...throughout my school years I would only practice throwing in the lessons and after school clubs in the summer. My teacher left though when I was 13 so I kinda just did it for fun. When I went to Uni...everyone was doing sport and I thought I would give throwing ago again.....needed a coach and found Woff through a friend of a friend. Trained with him for 2 months, once a week, doing Sprints, Lots of Med ball and stuff like that then threw my 48.73 but ended up being injuried. I definitely think you can only go so far on natural ability and I was really lucky I got taught a good technique from the start.....now if I want to get further I know its only training thats gonna get me there.
