If there was only one weights exercise what would you choose and why?
Mine would be the snatch, to get the most out of the hip and leg drive.

Pullovers are a great essential exercise but theres no involement of the legs and the hips which are more important in the throw. As for kari's thats a lethel exercise....but good for mobility.

you don't do that with much weight then...... looks like it could be very painful if you get it wrong

It's more for mobility, so you dont need alot of weight at all....but if you were to put a bit of weight on, i guess you would need someone behind to help control the bar down....lethal if you ask me!

Yeah it can be lethal; if done wrong so just dont get carried away or competitive about the weights. its just as much about flexibility and power through the full range as weight lifted. I chose this as it really does help with technique and encourages you to pull using your mid section it wont work the legs no but we had to choose only one excersize for lifting, the legs can be done other ways but try and run to make your arms bigger ! ;D

The zelezney pullover is quite good. Jan can pull about 110kg (not bad at about 80kg bodyweight). Other top throwers can do about 100 - 140 kg. I've done 90 so quite pleased.
Must admit I always stay away from the one lift question - as it never exists - we should all be doing a variety of lifts - Squats, cleans, snatches, pullovers, behind neck press and bench to name a few.
Over the past 2 years I have stuck with the following to good success - Cleans, Squat, pullover, lat pull down, behind neck press, ocassional snatch.
