Hi I have a problem with putting my left heel on the floor during the final stance. I try and stretch my left leg out far but always end up putting my toes down and not my heel.. it has become a bad habit! It means that i am unable to pull over my front foot because my leg is always bent. It feels wierd when i try and keep my left leg straight to pull over it :/ Anyone help?

Try some standing throws (and I really mean standing and none of this shuffling into it ) with your left heel planted on the ground and the toes raised as far as you can. After 3 million of these, increase the size of your base and after 3 million more take one stride (the only thing you are doing is planting your left heel down, keep your left toes raised). This is all low momentum stuff, so you should be able to keep your toes up for as long as possible. Part of the problem with being unable to plant with the heel first is ingrained habit (that's me) and part is the lack of confidence that you won't slip (me again). When I "learned" throw the jav I developed 2 bad habits very quickly. The first was not putting my left heel down as I didn't have any jav spikes (they cost £100 20years ago! ) and I was only allowed 1 pair of spikes a year at the very most so I quickly learned to lift my right foot as soon as possible so I didn't scrape it along the ground and wear it out. The cheap spikes available now are a godsend. ;D

what you should concentrate is "squeezing the thigh muscles" and doing the splits... the squeezing of the thigh will hold your leg straight and by doing the splits (or trying) you will only be able to get your heel down!
sometimes if your weight is too far forwards you will end up putting your foot down too early and your leg will bend
