Would people say that the technique required for the women's event is different to the technique required for the Men's especially now that the women's javelin has the same flight characteristics as the mens (since 1999)
Several women in the top 10 in the world seem to have a sling to their throw rather than a big pull over the top and some of them seem to achieve world leading throws off what seems like a very short run.
i'd like to hear sensible comments on this

i know sam you know my feelings on this subject. my personal feeling is that fundamentally men and women should be no different regarding javelin throwing technique, fundamental aspects of the event are universal. only the athlete's individual style makes the aesthetics of the throw differ from one thrower to the next, world class throwers all look different, due to differing personal styles, but fundamentally technique - wise, all do the very similar things. bad pics tbh........BUT impo.......fundamentally they both achieve similar things and i could go on and show loads of sequences showing all the same, here's just two examples.... www.thejavelinclub.com/tparchive2.htmlwww.thejavelinclub.com/tparchive3.htmlyou'll find that the way athlete's run, whether they start very slow or run fast, have a long approach or a short one, the way they X over and hold the javelin etc all differ, as they do it in their own individual way, a way that they have found suits them and a way that is most efficient and comfortable to them, but i feel there are definate principals on javelin throwing that all the very best achieve. that's my 2 penneth worth anyway.
