hello 'beepee', your brian parkes right? I've heard your one of the best coaches around, you've coached quite a few people to medal success at various upstaged competitions haven't you? It's funny because not many people i have talked to are familiar with you, yet your track record is ace! What was it this year..? A treble of golds for one of your U17 athletes, silver for an U19, so tell us whats your secret to producing these results?

Yup thats me and as for being one of the best coaches around then that might be wide open for debate, any coach who devotes most of their free time and energy to this great event of ours is worthy of praise. There are quite a few out there with equally good or better athletes under their wing and I dont see myself as being anything special. Secrets? I suppose that if there is such a thing then it is that I love this sport and devote most of my free time and energy to it, which in turn carries over to the athletes who respond by doing the same and put in the necessary hard graft plus dull drills that are needed to succeed. Nobody`s heard of me? haha well thats no surprise as being a "northern-er" we dont rate highly on the attention grabber charts but most people will know me by sight rather than by name as I tend to hang around in the background at most meets. The athletes who have acheived this year have got there by using their skills to the upmost level. I just input my experience which I have gained over the thirty odd years or so that I have been doing this but I am always eagre to learn along with them. Put the work in, have a laugh(essential), know what you have to do and why you are doing it and the rest will follow, if you want the week in week out details of what we do then click on my name, e mail me, and I will send them to you but be warned this stuff is NOT highly classified, just routine work that most coaches/athletes will already be doing. Nice to have you aboard the forum anyhowz, one of a special breed.

As a female thrower whos trained with Brian I can give you a personal insight. First it involves finding the nearest large set of steps (Don Valley in particular) and come up with devilish workouts so that you cant feel your legs afterwards. Secondly produce workout programs that hurt all over (in a good way) using exercises that work whether or not there currently "trendy". Thirdly have a certain way of making it all seem quite fun even for the parent stood freezing watching Finally having a large enough golf umbrella to share with your athletes at a wet and windy track! Also valuing all your athletes not just the potential stars. You can never guess in advance who'll definatly stay in sport. Thats obviously in addition to all the other stuff like learning off and listening to others, give up loads of free time and energy and other important bits
