ah yes the spanish rotational style... i must give that one a go when the track is empty.....i just don't understand how they used to throw over 300ft with it....look at where the guy is holding the grip and the fact that the tail of the jav is on his bum....strange

In the good old days they used to throw the spears with the same action as a discus. slide their hand down the tail of the spear to make it rotate
very dangerous, thats why the rules say we have to throw over our shoulder, and not turn our backs to the sector before we throw.

I read somewhere that they used to grease the javelin and when they wanted to release it they would squeeze realy tightly on the jav. the tighter they squeezed the quicker it came out of thier hands....

You dont have to be old to remeber it. Pieces of info like this was part of the old club coach course. Part of the exam was the history and current happenings in the event. I never did totally understand how knowing that helped my coaching but now I do. Its so I can answer those annoying what if questions young children often ask!
