An interesting read. Personally, when throwing I never use overweight javs as the risk of injury is too great, however, I do use overweight throwing balls (up to about 1.5k) but only in the standing power position (rarely off more than 3 strides).
Furthermore, I do use an underweight jav a lot (approx 720-750gms) that is the same dimension to a regular 800 in conjunction with a normal 800. This seems to work for me. I also combine different weights with medball exercises 2-4kg balls that also works quite well.
From what I Can remember the differential should be between 5-10% variation if you are going to use over under and overweight javs.
