oh dear ! terrible right foot placement allowing no drive. no apparant block at all too close to line arm dropped prior to release, resulting in poitn being lost upward..... but apart from that i reckon i look flash ! ;D ;D ;D i reckon me and sam should lay off the pies for a while though ! looks like we are on the tofu burgers at the end of season meeting bbq sam !

JB you dont need a coach you ARE one. You hit all points with nail on head accuracy, now all you have to do is sort em out. Pork pies are the best luvverly jubberly. ;D as for Sam you correct too,ie, soft left block which is stopping the javelin "popping" up and out or if you like "lift". this is most likely caused by the right foot landing being markedy too much towards the side/rear and you cannot "roll" over it into the block so you have to bend the left leg a tad to compensate. Land with the right on the ball of the foot facing about one or two a clock(on the watch face) and your problem is sorted and I will see you at the Oly/AAAs trials. Pork pies rule

Ant just looked at your pics and it appears that you are landing too heavy on the right leg which is causing everything to collapse a bit. Tread on egg shells with the right foot and this will make make the left plant quicker and more solid then the world is your oyster, see you at the AAAs/oly trials too, boy its gonna be a busy day.

Cheers, i havent heard that one before....also my soft block problem is more down to injury as bending the knee seems to protect my ankle and its something ive adopted over the years, but i am trying everthing possible to correct it as its seriously holding me back. Remember im left handed, so "right plant quicker"...but who's being fussy! See you at the trials. Sam, heres that pic of Bone: server6.uploadit.org/files/athletestar21-Bone2170404.JPG

Sam, I notice from your pictures that you are wearing an elbow brace - do you have an elbow problem - if so you may want to stop using the carbon javelin as it will only exacerbate the problem as your initial arm strike is a bit low. However, not a bad run off with perhaps a bit too much lean back (you may want/need to get a more agressive drive from the left leg). Little right hip action (could be resolved by a better left leg action from the final crossover). Overall not a bad position to be in though and the final arm strike isn't too bad either.

yes i do have a problem and i am currently awaiting an apointment at the Royal London Sports Injury Clinic. to be honest i shouldn't really be throwing at all....it's just that i'm addicted to it! i have a kind of grinding noise in my elbow when i extend it fast. i also have got muscle/nerve pain on the inside of my elbow. the pain radiates up my forearm and into my tricep tendon.... the strap and some ibruprofen seem to do the trick for competition day....

Sam - I have quite bad elbow and bicep probs in the past. Aside from learning to throw technically better, working on strengthening the rotator cuff muscles has worked extremely well, it has taken the pressure off the elbow and allowed a proper throwing action. If you log onto the EXRX.NET website and look at shoulder articulations you should get a general feel for the type of exercises you need to do - basically they are the internal and external rotation of the shoulder joint working the Infraspinatus and supraspinatus muscles. Hope this helps.

Sam- the comments from Tomd are all valid. I have also suffered elbow problems and the technique that Woffy promotes solved this for me. This is to turn the grip hand towards the body. This has the effect of 'priming' the elbow joint to allow it come through the throw with its natural hinge action (i.e. you do not put rotation onto the elbow). If also after the release you throw the hand away, slightly to the right, the arm finishes the throw with a more natural body movement & therefore less strain. Keep saying this - "its easier to show than describe!" I will look at the web site that Tomd recommends as now I do not have elbow problems I have shoulder problems instead!!
