I am looking forward to a chat or two with Tim over the weekend, and see what his thoughts are for the future. Although not specifically going for Javelin, it will be a worthwhile weekend, I am sure.

Tim is featured in one of the first videos on the new UKA uCoach site and comes across very well. Just click on the link below to go to the Homepage and then click on Involving Style. coaching.uka.org.uk/It will be interesting to see how the new site develops and how it is used by coaches. I hope it succeeds as it can be a very important coach education and communication tool.

Really enjoyed watching that. Show's just why Tim is the new lead mentor for jav!
I remember meeting and speaking to Tim for the first time in Bedford at the last javfest and he was discussing how "unique" Oliver's style was with his cross overs and rhythm but he was in no rush to try and change that because it was working well - a fine example of one size doesn't fit all. Oliver is likely to be the best ever by some way as an Under 15 (clearly with the new spec and perhaps even compared to Old spec) and lets hope stays with the sport for some time and keeps improving!
Hope we see more videos like that on the website which looks really good by the way!

Matti's UK u/15 rec is the best new or old spec [old spec record was Paul Godwin with 62.70m] - it's a great UK record. Oli should in theory given that kids generally improve year on year beat that, but he may not - late 63's @ 14 is very good, it's actually pretty much world class.
I like the focus on quality of each throw and indeed everyone has a style. I think often with youngsters they can do some awkward looking things and aslong as it's not going to hurt, then I think they should be let develop naturally, this imo is far better than ripping them apart and forcing them to be a certain way in everything they do. I wish Tim all the best. Interesting to see that this vid was filmed in July or so!

Hi, I'd love to see this clip, but the website isn't the easiest 9at least for me) to navigate; so could someone please put the exact link in. That would be great, thanks. Jeremy PS. I hear great things about Tim and am looking forward to speaking to/meeting him at some point. I help a young guy, Morgan Jury (14 yo), who last year threw 24m with the 400g and this year threw just under 42m with a 600g, so he's improving nicely and should go through the 50m barrier next season. I'm very greatful for the many tips I've got from this forum and the pepople on it. PPS. There are a few of us at TVAC who are developing a training routine that I have stolen from all the rest of the coaches. It works well as the improvements show. If anyone is interested I can put the programme on the forum. People may or may not be interested.

After spending a great deal of time with Tim over the weekend, I am looking forward to a fruitful time ahead. Also, once the new Jav Lead takes their place at Luffborough, things will be better for us all I believe! With Tim as the Mentor as well as the new Javelin lead, things will, I believe go from strength to strength.
Glasgow was a great experience, and learnt a lot of stuff that has a relevence to Jav, as well as throwing in general, as well as all sorts of other aspects of training and competing. Certainly the highlights for me from the speakers there, were the 3 sessions with Terseus Liebenberg...very passionate Man, and learned a lot from him. So willing to share information for the greater good, and look forward to meeting up with him next year in South Africa. Also, what I took from the weekend was a very positive attitude from all involved for the future ahead!

One of the things Tim and I were chatting about was the filming he did out in Halle, years ago and some of the machines used there, crude as they may have been.....but pleased to see Terseus has had a hand in building a better one......makes the one on my clothes line look a bit outdated!! www.puk.ac.za/nuus/nuus441_e.html

Would you mind giving us a good download on what you gleened from the Conference - perhaps in a different thread. Thanks Dobster

Cheers Ivan, Someday i hope to be able to progress from "searching" the web to "finding" something. Loved the film. All kept very simple; no jargon. A coach with great communication/motivational/psychological skills! Great to see a bit of active listening too. Jeremy

Just to add to this tim 'love fest' ! I think slinger made the point as well that a unique style must be checked out for being something that isn't going to hurt him later on and one thing that I think nobody has yet pointed out was that Tim mentioned the boy had osgood slaters and he had some sort of strapping on his knee which probably explains why he was inconsistent this year and tim made the point that he would do limited throws and I think he metioned adaptation to his training. YOu will only really know in a fewe years time if his techinque is workable as the previous two 'stars' of the boys rankings, one Dan is only just back from injury and has seldom thrown in comp since he was 14 and now Matti has a pre stress fracture of his back so in both cases something has not gone wrong - but not irreversible.
One thing that probably should have been mentioned is how young both athletes were and how training is adapted to them - if at all. I see/hear Laura still thows them out of the right hand sector and is probably worth mentioning that she is or has been a multi eventer so some of her techical flaws have not been long addressed.
Tim has accepted (as has mal fenton -nearly)an invite to a session we are doing at UWIC with some athletes on the 14th Nov so that will be a good time for him and malcolm to explain their roles and let them loose on a few coaches and athletes which should be a good day! We don't mess around her in Wales you know - while you talk - we book 'em!

Nije, has this day been promoted through Welsh Athletics and to all Welsh throws coaches? Remember their roles are within England although I'm sure they can offer a lot to Welsh coaches as well.
