Just remembered that when I was handing over the "javelin community letter", it came up that CVC was the National Javelin Coach for Holland. Seeing as I've still only managed the art of searching the net (rather than "finding anything" ), any ideas what his record was? Might be interesting !

CvC's early coaching background was in throws. Here is Van Commenee's career path:
1980 - Quits as 200m sprinter to be a coach. 1987 - Appointed Dutch javelin coach. 1991 - Made Dutch national coach. 2000 - Coaches Denise Lewis to Olympic gold. 2001 - Appointed UKA chief for jumps and combined events. 2004 - Coaches Kelly Sotherton to Olympic bronze. 2004 - Made Holland's head of performance. 2008 - Leads successful Dutch Olympic campaign.

I think it was suggested what were his individual athlete developments like whilst he was coaching jav? - not necc. a very general low down.

I was told - or who told me was udner the impression he was a throws coach and because the country was small he was the multi events coach as well. He used to coach Eric De Bruin I think he told me when he was working as the jumps and mulit events person for UKA in birmingham. He seemed to be quite knowledgeable and got Kelly S to throw 40m once!
For some reason I had that in my head as he also got denise to throw 16.40 in the shot as well. I'm not sure abotu the athletes he coached in Holland but Shaun P told me once he coached some female multi eventers and javelin throwers with decent PB's. There is no doubt about it, he is a very good coach and I am interested to see how he does as head coach as he seems to have a hands on role and see how that works out.
However,

yes?....waiting with baited breath!!!
Could he have too narrow a remit at UKA?
If he is a 'hands on' type of guy, where does he spend his working hours?
Could he possibly gather up groups or 'events' and expound his theories as to where he wants people to get to, how many and how soon?
Because for him the clock is ticking loudly.

Don't know where that however came from! I think he has the smallest remit ever given to anyone but he has a tough job and I think if I was him I'd do the same. He will be judged on medals so everything he has should go into that and overlook the top athletes training. If it works he will be a genius and if not it was a ballsy thing to do. The anti uka people don't understand what his job is. Kevin tyler probably has the wider athletics community to deal with and probably has more influence in shaping the sport foe the future. By 2012 it will probably be all change again.
I think Dave Collins did a good job (although he made mistakes)- but he was remembered for getting 5 medals (even though rumour has it the process of getting rid of him had already started) but what he did was be a performance director. He put in structures sucha s hipacs and put teams of coaches and physio's etc in them and people came and the results haven't been bad in the development side but the one thing he probably didn't get a hold on was the performance athletes who he allowed the coaches to look after. CVC seems to be more hands on asking these coaches and athletes questions and making them more accountable to him as his job relies on it eg why were so many of our top athletes injured.
TBH when I listen to some of the alternatives by jokers like AD clown site they go on about them having a seperate coaching forum - staffed by who and who in the main steam of athletics is going to work with what amounts to county coaches. The most successful athletes (i.e. finalists and medal winners)we have at present are coached by people who have some sort of contact with UKA and not ARC or who ever. You have to as they have the lottery purse strings. I notice that they champion people like Jade Johnson and others who get dropped from lottery but then improve - and want to be back on the system even though they improved with out lottery - suggesting that they didn't need it in the first place.
You cannot work outside the lottery system on UKA guidelines unless you are Paula radcliffe and if we had 20 of her- you wouldn't really need a NGB. I would say it is arguable that you dont need an NGB in the US where the collegiate system produces the athletes and that is the only way we could do it here as well!
Historically we have only, won 7 medals as a best at a major champs even when we had the likes of Christie etc so it is a tough ask and I don't know why some people think some of our recent staff should be miracle makers. Throwing lots of money at average athletes will not make them world class! If it did work we should have loads of top flight medal winners. You have to invest the money wisely and just putting 2K into an athletes bank account every month is not the answer.

Just read this on franks forum - obviously him under yet another name in response to my above blog under the title of It will all be better in 2012 .LOL --- I don't know where I mentioneed that!
Whats genius about cherry picking and ignoring the bigger and more important picture? Tyler would need to produce a hat full of major miracles to get UKA out of the mess it has got itself into and restore athletics to somewhere near half as good as it used to be~
Obvioulsy not read what I wrote but I was stating what the current situation was as I understand it. We have only won 6/7 medals at a world stage and are not far from that at present with good results from the u23 and U20 we are not in the abyss we were a few years back with only 3 people making a world juniors final! Don't shoot the messenger! This is the stauts quo and 2012 is probably when things may change again what is wrong with saying that? We actually had more finalists than ever at our last games so things are at least improving

"He used to coach Eric De Bruin..."
Can't say I'd be putting that snippet at the top of my CV.
