Can anyone help me out? I'm a Student from EPM, in São Paulo, Brazil, and our coach just resigned. I'm a beginner, and, although I have enough strengh in my arms and shoulders, I can't manage to throw the javelin more than about 30m. Can anyone give me tips regarding exercises I should do to improve the [glow=red,2,300]speed [/glow]of my arm? I need to learn how to use [glow=red,2,300]100%[/glow] of my strengh and speed! Also, I'd like to know if by any chance someone could show me some videos of athletes that throw the javelin using the V grip (the one that resembles the grip of a baseball)? Because that't the grip I use. As soon as I get a camera and am able to find a place to train again, I'm going to post a video of my throw.

Firstly welcome to the forum, may i suggest that you make an introduction fo yourself in the 'who are you' thread for starters.
What is your age group and sex?
30m for an under 15 girl would actually make you quite good!
I don't think it is worth commenting until we see some vids....

Welcome in Chris, post up a vid of your throwing and i'm sure there will be some useful basic changes to be made there. Until then i would suggest that you ignore any technical limitations based on grip and just concentrate on watching some videos of successful technical throwers like Steve Backley and Andreas Thorkildsen. Take note of the positions they make with their bodies and what is happening with the javelin as they do it.
Youtube has a whole array of good videos- just go there and watch from some different angles.

Mindioka, nice to hear from someone as far away from our shores as yourself.
It's very hard to offer blind advice over the internet; however, one comment you make rings a bell with me.
"improve the speed of my arm"
I would humbly suggest you think instead of throwing with your whole body rather than singling out your arm. Start thinking in terms of throwing with your legs and back - your arm will largely take care of itself.
A good DVD to start with is "Come to javelin practice" by Tom Pertanoff. If you can't get a copy PM me and I'll send you one.
Happy throwing.
