Wez
Your quite right! I set up a website last year, but kept getting hijacked by posters set on moaning and whinging, or grinding axes! In the end I stopped it, because all I wanted to do was help and or, be helped. Turns out the exact opposite occured. Lets have all the politics on AD and AW and get back to all achieving our goal of helping Athletes and Coaches, and being informative.....of course banter too!

Well said Chris, this is a good forum and if people ave a problem with each other PM or keep it to themselves. Antagonising people or shadowing what they say is counter productive. Offer advice if wanted and give examples of what training you do etc is a good way of sharing information and it is there for you to take or leave. Ask questions etc but do not denegrate people for it.
The fact that we shared info etc at the rgional get togethers is why they were so successful.

Wez,
You are 100 % right.
I was looking to have a go at some (self-deprecating) humour; some have taken that way others haven't.
Clearly this hasn't worked too well.
It's never my attention to abuse people especially in public, so apologies to all who have been upset by this.

I actually do not think Jeremy was being aggressive. I think the PS was jocular. He made some very valid points that I agree with (unusual ) and to go down the route of lambasting him for the PS was not called for. There are far more verbally aggressive people than Jeremy who is probably the most caring and catholic of posters on here. Certainly he has done more for Javelin and Javelin throwers than many of his critics !!

To crack a joke or attempt to be funny on here shouldn't need a 'lol' or a Smiley Face with tongue in cheek. Irony and subtlety are supposed to be second nature as part and parcel of the English sense of humour.

The danger with forums and emails is that you don't see the face of the person talking or hear the tone of their voice; unfortunately that's where most of the subtlety in langauge comes from. Excuse the pun but pure text has no context which is why, all too often, the same words are read with different meaning by different people, largely based on how the reader (not the teller) happens to feel at the time.
If, when you write a post, you first take the time to read it out loud...........everyone will think you're nuts !
Goodness me that was deep, must go and lie down.

PJ, as Pembrokian so eloquently points out, noone can see your internation when you write it on a forum, and the casual visitor here does not know the particular author and WILL be put off by that sort of tone of posting.
My comment earlier was aimed at the forum in general using J's post as an example of how we seem to have drifted into negativity at the javclub. I'm personally bored to tears by it and more than a little concerned for the forums future and effectivness as a result. Which is why i broke my silence.
I hope that we ALL understand and take this on board in future.

Wes,
I take your point and it was very well made. The casual user on this web site would need to read thousands of postings to get a feel fot it. But it is JCUK, a members' forum. I do not like a lot of what is written on here: much of it I ignore. The posting by Jeremy was perhaps, only perhaps, in the wrong thread and was perhaps a little bit controversial. I took it as being a bit of self-deprecatory humour. A lot more refreshing than some of the 'ranting' and even what passes for 'banter' 'lol' !!!
However the comments were under General Chat
Therefore I would conclude that with Jeremy's record of 'working for the good of Javelin' his was not the posting that was worthy of attack. There are/have been others far more justifiable for that sort of treatment.

Hi guys,
I think we all agree here. We don't want personal arguments and we all want to learn and share about javelin.
Taking the example, Jeremy did not mean anything literally but as he himself says, it could be misinterpreted and it is important that potential members and onlookers are not put off. We all know his passion for the event - takin a petition to UKA doesn't pay the mortgage but does require time, effort and planning - so respect for doing that.
I'll close this thread now - not because anyone has done or said something they shouldn't but Sam and I feel perhaps we should take more responsibility in moderating the forum from now on. We also feel that it is easier to moderate with better guidelines in place so that people will understand why things are closed or removed. This is something we are working on.
We plan to drastically change the forum and are getting together next weekend to put this in place. If anyone would like to make any suggestions, please feel free to post them on a new thread or PM or email Sam and I.
