Now the season is drawing to a end Do you think anything has changed very much from 2008
I see no major overall improvement in mens or ladies standards Javelin in this country seems to be in a plateau
every year we look forward hopefully for a new Dawn in the javelin only to be disappointed
does anyone think 2010 will be the year for a major breakthrough

i think there has definately been increases in the standards. More women over 40m than last year the top 50 for men has moved on again and we have one over 80m and two over 75m! Under 15 boys has some exciting prospects. Under 20men has two over 71m when only bonne was over 70m last year. Look at how many more women there are over 45m this year. The wave is growing!!

3 over 75 is a lot better especially when you look to next yr!! Two guys in the Top 8 of the Commonwealth with people like John Robert and Stuart who arent that consistent in there, things look quite rosy in the developement of our top few!!
Juniors were very good this yr, and the girls have deffo been more consistent around the 50m mark
Even in the younger age groups you have a few guys and gals breaking records!!
All in all not too bad a season!!!
If things are moving forward you can only congratulate!!!!

The women are stuck around the 48-52m mark with one making massive strides from 44- 49 as a 15 year old. Lets hope she can contuinue that sort of progress but the women are generally making a metre or two here and there - ok not great on a world level but they are progressing. Obviously, Goldie is still world class but suffered injury so her 6m fall off is understandible but still very good throwing
Although fewer have thrown over 70m (by 1!) two juniors have gone over 70m, and the top three have made significant progress although when not at their best there is a considerably drop off specifically MErv but he has made gret strides as well on the positive side. The other guys are still throwing respectable distances but the problems I guess with jav is the same as the other events - how do we get from where we are - to the next level i.e. 70-75 75-80 80+ regularly. Women 50-55m is a great start.
We should also remember that the HJ was in a healthy state last year - and this year our medalist got injured and the others did not make the final so we cannot be too harsh on ourselves. Finally, all three of last years individual medalists and can double that from the previous champs have not got medal or in some cases haven't got to the start line so l think we should be looking more long term and not be too harsh on our selves.. How far have we come say in the last 4 years?
Back to the stats!
Overall I think it has been a good year for jav with two reps at the worlds and records falling in the younger age groups.

TBH godfather you asked if there will be a major break through - Mervyn has been just that really.
The first man to go over 80 [the start of world class IMO] for the first time in the UK for about 13 years, the last being Nick Nieland in '96 at the AAA's. That I reckon is a major break through.
