Congratulations to Jenny Meadows......not considered by UKA to be Podium Potential ( it really is so subjective ! )
Also in the race with exactly the same chances was Marilyn Okoro (8th) who is considered by UKA to have Podium Potential.
Unfortunately another athlete who has hit the headlines but lately injured up was Andy Turner who has had an excellent season, despite losing his funding. Compare that with Alan Scott who I believe IS funded by Scotland who hasn't,
I really wish these people who earn all the money would sort this out. A huge majority of funded athletes are either injured, have been injured this season or were not good enough to be selected........meanwhile there are the Jenny Meadows of this world who are focused and do what is needed, never let GB down and occasionally get a selectorial kick in the teeth !!

On the couch with Hazel Irvine Jenny affirmed how tough it had been without any funding other than basic living expenses. How she had to work part time and had to get up at 5.30 ish to do some of her training!!!
Whilst Marilyn presumably would not have had to.
I am sure there are people in their Ivory towers who do not comprehend that !!
At least the 'On Camp with Kelly' group all have a similar set of conditions and circumstances. But presumably that is all funded.

I was sooo pleased when Jen got her bronze - she was superb and testament to showing what desire, talent and a solid foundation can do for you.
On a personal level Jen is from my county [sort of...] and I still remember the first time I met her as both first year u/20 athletes sat next to each other on a coach in Germany, just to illustrate how committed Trev - her now husband is/was he was also on his way there that night getting planes, trains and no doubt all sorts of other automobiles to get there in Mannheim to see her compete - he went on his own to every single abroad meet she did.....amazing!
A little bit of trivia for everyone at my wedding a few athletics mates were invited who both myself and Kara are mates with and 2 of the 3 medalists at this years WC's were there!! ;D ;D ;D

errrrrrm sort of!
He was there with damien greaves [one of his best mates] and a couple of his other non athletics mates and was invited to the ceremony and evening do, as he's mates with Kara.
He changed out of his suit for the night do and came down stairs wearing his suit trousers with braces....a trilby style hat, a pink vest saying "tough guys wear pink!" written on the front and wait for it.....some huge fluffy lion face slippers!!!!
I devised a general knowledge quiz for night do, with me quiz master reading out the questions - yeah...really!
...Then whilst I was on the stage reading out the questions to the guests, he then decided it'd be fun to get on the stage and try and see my answer sheet......always the showman, always desperate to be centre of attention - a nice lad to be fair, but it doesn't always come off as when showing off he put his trilby on top of a lit candle on a table.......he burnt a hole in the top of his hat - needless to say I wasn't that gutted for him! ;D ;D ;D
