Guys, i'am not having a go at Merv but has any british javelin thrower performed so poorly at a major championship barring injury

Tessa - Moscow - 1980 - 48m - didn't she do well 4 years later!
I did 70m at the Euro's in Split 1990 - came 28th out of 30 starters!
No lack of power and commitment from Merv in the throw I saw on TV, just alignment was poor. Heart and passion took over from control and technique but so many of us have been there too. He will learn from this.
He might feel that he has let people down but he hasn't. He qualified by right to be there and he had a bad day but he's young and the javelin is a highly complex event.

I agree. Merv has worked hard to be in Berlin, ye, he still has some work to do with John, his coach, but he had appalling conditions to throw in... and to have to break off halfway and then try to come back for one throw - impossible!
