Unfortunately it looks as if Goldie hasn't made the final. She threw 58.98, which after a summer of injury is great, but sadly not enough to get to the final, with Abakumova throwing just under 69, and Spotakova, Stahl and Ratej all throwing over 63.

A shame for Gold, she seemed very upbeat in her pre-event interview aswell.
Of course she'll be back and even better then ever I'm sure - every champs is a learning curve for her.
Something she noted was she slipped at plant on her first throw - I have just seen Jess Ennis throw and she also slipped at plant with her left foot, they both wear the same adidas spikes and I have worn them before and they aren't the best grip. The track may actually be a "slippy" track with a very lose scree of rubber still on the track, which is often the case in the new design polytan tracks, it's basically like standing on ball bearings - I'm quite sure the track isn't mondo after seeing a close up.
Interesting to see how the men handle it if this is the case, especiallywith a few of them coming in at mega pace.
Also a total side note about Gold - is Mike Hazel her partner? After the cameras zoomed in on him in the crowd, after her throwing?

...EDIT - just been reliably informed that [US thrower] Mike Hazle isn't her partner - just abit of randomness from the camera man I guess then!

Last night they showed some real close ups of the track and it does look like the sort of tartan I like - ie one that the spikes go fully into and couldn't see a lose scree of rubber bits on top - do you know what I mean when I say that?

Just seen the reel with yesterdays bits on it that i had'nt seen, confused as to why Jess's and Goldie's spikes slipped!!
I know Goldie will be heartbroken and my heart goes out to her!!!!! SHe put herself on the line and for that she deserves endless amounts of credit!!! Well done Goldie
BUt something that no-one has mentioned is the fact that Maria smashed 69 nearly and it looked easy!! I think there's the Gold medallist and I'm gonna say it and i reckon she could get close to the WR!!!!

Indeed, but come on H you know the score - good throws always look easy, I still think spotakova will do abukamova and the rest of the girls.

Spoke to Goldie just after the qualifying round; gutted as you might expect. She said her foot slipped on the first one and just couldn't quite hit it right thereafter.
Wished Mr Luckwell good luck, he seemed relaxed and looked like he is enjoying things. Fingers (and everything else) crossed for him.
The throws (especially the mens shot and discus) have been the epitome of high drama, absolutely fantastic entertainment.
General feeling amongst the fans (sentiments which I share) is that the team is doing us proud and, with only a few exceptions, everyone is delivering all that could be expected of them.
One last point: what price Jamaica to top the medal table ?
