My runup technique is Terrible as far as I can gather, as I can throw about the same with a standing throw... www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSHF78W3BxwPlease feel free to rip in to the technique because I need it or I'm not gona learn good technique :-) cheers, -Elliot Jones-

Your right leg needs to be crossing past your center of balance in the cross steps (eg crossing your body) and when you drive off the right foot onto the blocking left leg at the end you should land on the ball of your foot with it facing at 45degrees to the throw direction. eg at 2 o clock.
By landing like that you can be light on your feet and very quickly transfer your runup momentum off the right foot and onto the left blocking leg. Any delay or stalling on this right foot before the throw will cause you to significantly lose runup momentum.
As a reference point, right now your legs are not properly crossing eachother and your right foot is facing at 5 o clock (almost facing backwards!) before you throw causing alot of stalling.
Is that Harsh enough for you?
One more thing, try this again with a javelin in your hand and re-post because we inevitably do things differently when we are about to throw.

Elliot, have you managed to sort out the help of a coach yet? I read previous that you are/were/planning on seeing Bill Bushnell - has this come into fruition as of yet?

Yes I have indeed been to 2 sessions now, but ripper my right shoulder being too enthusiastic followed by ignoring it lol.... Bill is on hols next week though so it'll give me time to recover,
I guess thats the result of not doing anything for a couple of years then throwing all of a sudden...

Yea, that can occur. Speak to Bill for some general and specific shoulder conditioning you could do. The reason why I ask if you are now being coached, as that's the best way to improve and get immediate feedback from an experienced pair of eyes. I don't want to dis-encourage you to asking for advice on the forum, as it can be a great source of help.....but I want to suggest caution at times, as what Bill says might not be what is suggested by members on here - he might even suggest something exactly the same as members on here, but the feedback can get lost in translation and even though both suggest the same one sounds very different. I have had instances of this along time ago and it's very frustrating. The age old saying - "too many cooks spoil the broth" can be apt when seeking advice on Javelin throwing IMO....especially for someone learning the event. I hope that's made sense to you
