Loads of places about and often what's one man's junk is another's gold and vice versa! ;D

I agree with you Slinger and Caroline. There are lots of great coaches out there across the country. It is a question of finding the right coach for you. I can only speak from personal experience in that I had a great coach once and I was in training for the Moscow Olympics. Everything was going really well and according to plan until he took up a new post 150 miles away and I was unable to go. That was the end of my dream.

I have to say that when youngsters choose their university, in reality they should look at courses first and coaching second. Yes, if you're a keen sportsperson then it's important that you have good facilities etc etc, but at the end of the day they should be looking at it as a way to give them a route into employment, rather than an extra couple of years with their coach of choice.
Athletics isn't exactly the most lucrative of sports for starters, and we are all aware of how one injury can put paid to the career (athletically) of the most talented of people. We all have to make a living, and you choose to go on to tertiary education, particularly in these days of high fees and student loans, you should make sure that academically you are getting the best value for money for your requirements.

I agree and uwic has one of the best research profiles 5th I think in the uk which is highly sought after and has one of the highest retention and student satisfaction percentage a great soci town nternationalsports events cultural events and a lot more that u wow expect in a capit city. The uni also boasts excellent facilities good spptts teams good courses and if u compared it to others you'll find that everyone trains together and have a good atmosphere and many athletocs events take ace their indoor and out. Now. I womder why you wo uld think uwic did not offer such excellentbcourse and is highly rated. ere is more than just lufbra out there as impressive as it is but for other socialbfacities I'm happy I went elsewhere. Uwic isn't some grubby little he college. The hall of fame has numerous rugby le Legends as well as host of other sports. It is a sophisticated modern well ewuipt successful university. Hence I wonder why anyone would think any different

I think Elliot's original questions were more on the lines in thinking the UWIC was a club or somewhere he could go and train, as opposed to go and study there - suggesting do people go there to train when they reach a certain level etc He also asked what facilities are available - maybe these questions could be answered?

Uwic as far as I am aware doesn't offer, for example, physics, which is one of the reasons Rosie didnt choose it. She also didnt choose Sheffield as she wasnt as keen on the course. For her Loughborough ticked the right boxes academically. To be honest, the coaching really didnt play a part in her decision, and Loughborough doesn't have a paid full-time javelin coach anyway, although Shaun is an excellent coach, but we didnt really know him before Rosie went to Loughborough.

Like I said I don't know much really about the Uni at all.
Who thought it's not highly rated? who's having a go at it?
I've not been unlucky enough to go to a club that's not had a good atmosphere and good facilities, either way I enjoy athletics for athletics, a good bunch of people is a bonus :-).

Mick and Wilf may differ with your claim of being best throws uni there bev .Funnily enough so do the Bucs results as they show outdoor top 8 results as UWIC 37pts LEEDS MET 39pts and LOUGHBORO 47pts and if you include indoor shot results UWIC 44pts LEEDS MET 57pts LOUGHBORO 55pts . Caroline is right education first ,so find the uni that does the course and if they have a choice then check coach/facilities availability.

We coach a few people from other unis as well and tbh i think it was with ref to the men rather than women but I only learned this as I was a nominee for UWIC coach of the year. Also we have cardiff uni and a few other local colleges whose athletes train here eg south glam had a 2nd indoor female 200m and a g who came 4th/5th in the discus who is also in our group. Cardiff uni have a few other good athletes s well. We tend to look a cardiff as a uni city because there is quite a lot going on here as well as courses and training. The rugby programme men and women is 2nd to non with them reaching 3 finals and the women winning theirs and there is no active recruiting apparently. I went to brunel and carnegie which I enjoyed throughly.
