All the best to everyone competing this weekend.
I won't make it this time, too soon with what I have had to deal with. I'm still hoping for some form of return to competition before the end of the season.
I hope mervyn shows his ability again after a couple of weeks hiding/technical training. I hope james and Huffy throw to top form. And watch out, Doran is getting a bit consistant, time for a big one. And everyone else, more 70m throws please!
Ladies, Will someone please throw 55m, and lots over 50m (Goldie excluded)??
Enjoy the weekend, Mike

The comp will be worse for it, that's a shame Mike. I heard not too long ago you were giving them some stick in training aswell.

Did the weather turn or was it a bad wind as Merv (well done ) apart, they were quite dissappointing performances when you consider what people had thrown up until then not that I want to out a downer on the event - the fact that TV went off before the event started was downer enough!
Any comments from those there?

what is the AAA's? is it the national champs? Morgan, the AAAs (the 3 'A's) as they used to be known are this year known as the World Trials. They are, as you say, the National Championships, and are also used for selection of major international events. I guess sometimes us older ones (ahem) often dont realise that young people haven't heard that term!

Dunno what happened there!
Anyway, the weather put paid to most of the throws! Lee did well to come back to take 3rd place, as did Huffy to take 2nd.
Not the best competition in the world, marred by the weather. Merv would still have won, but once the rain came, it was over after the very 1st throw!

as merv finished his first round throw and bonne was called for his the rain came and it didn't stop. Runway was drenched and everyone looked like a drowned rat. It was just stupid. Warm ups were great. The wind was excellent and there was no rain. It just changed so fast.

Just glad I had my fishing umbrella. If they had started the competition 30-45 mins earlier we would have all had a chance at at least 2 throws. Why didn't UKa get some tent things for the athletes and officials........
I would like to say the weather was the reason I didn't throw well..... but I can't. Sometimes when you throw bad, you throw bad.... nothing else.
On another note....
I would like UKa to think about the athletes first and not... the BBC. Our event was set up for the TV, but none of the throws are ever shown on TV. We had to do a 'line up' for 'TV' and the crowd, but there was no real crowd watching (apart form the old faithful). They set up the physio's next to the rebound wall and...... no rebound wall for the throwers.... call up room in the throws net.... no throws area for warm up.... and then over rated #?!#@~?!# runners and their coaches get in the way when you warm up.
Rant over..... I just hope Merv gets selection for the worlds and gets in the final..... but then UKa would say that was their plan with all the funding and support they have put in to Javelin.

Neil, To add to that. The women's 10,000 m was happening. The Commentater/Announcer became so mesmerised with Meseret Defar trying to break 30 mins (I didn't think Guests were allowed in these events anymore) he missed the occasional throw and announced several times that 'so and so' was about to throw and he had in fact already thrown. When the presentation was made everyone had gone, except the faithful few. WHY OH WHY is the Javelin always last/so late? Can't 'they' think of any more events to put in that slot? As usual we got home after midnight !!!
Well done. In those conditions you threw pretty well. I actually thought you looked lighter on your feet than David.

its amazing how much affect the weather has on everybody, watching the warm ups, it was going to be a hell of a comp im sure chris threw over 70 with his first throw off about 5 paces, shame the timer ran out but the clock was never stopped when he walked back to throw again, im not sure what the rules are on that but i know they stopped it when james had to walk back once to throw again. lee and chris did well to claw up to 70 in the rain, i thought Dave mckay wasnt phazed by the weather threw solid all the way through 62-65 despite the conditions!

Jimmy on occasions they didn't even start the counter!!!
I feel so frustrated for everyone because the way the javelins were flying in the warm up from easy throws it looked like it was going to really heat up in the main comp.
i guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens at the UK challenge final in August!
