Of course congratulations to them both. With Merv ranked 3rd in his field he could get some serious points for the team - fingers crossed for them both.

didn't realise until reading this that there were 12 teams taking part. How is that going to work on the track, heats and finals for all events to 800, hurdles and relays - then only give throwers 2-4 throws?

Apologies for talking to myself here! Seems that the races will just be seeded for 100-400 and hurdles and relays are run according to position at the end of individual track events. 800+ straight finals. Worth reading about the rules for other events here - lots of "innovation" www.european-athletics.org/files/etc09/CEA__LEAFLET_web_01.pdf

not exactly a high standard by anyone lusis.
we know merv has thrown 81 like the way he throws currently, but when i watched backley said when commentating he looks very slow and he is in fairness, he also looks "too in control"
this is a good point and one for subject to debate imo and i have touched on it in the past, but i have had a few convos over the years to people about the feelins you have when you throw your very best and it for me is one that you are at the very edge of control and pushing the very limits of what we are capable of and being in control over - it was even suggested by some very big names in the business that at very best, peak performance you are slightly out of control, but happen to combine superior technical prowess at the same time, a feat that is extremely hard to replicate time and time again.
