if huffy continues to progress and run at it with some impulse and james maybe waiting a tad with the top half, i can see 2 more UK lads over 80!

Great stuff Chris!! Good to see you there and congrats to John and you for the input on Mervyn. Jt's input is obviously helping also.
These show how much potential there is with the top 3 guys on show and Freya's throwing is something to behold. Just look at that throwing shoulder!!! When she gets a really good conditioned and mature body and can hold the positions she is looking for she will be immense. I do not want to put any pressure on her but I was so impressed. Like many others on the forum I am impressed by what is happening this year and predict some very good performances. Well done athletes and a big well done to the coaches!!

I thought i'd wait 'til the end of the season to pass comment so we could see what people achieved. I hope nobody minds me passing comment as it is supposed to be constructive and not a personal insult!
Merv - I believe chris and john should work on alignment before anything else. He leans in with his head and then on delivery his whole body turn sharpe left. If he could drop his left shoulder and get his throwing hand up (look at backleys parallel jav cary on his world record throw) - run straight with out placing his left foot infront of his right on his plant - and hold his left side bit longer he will consistently throw straighter. He needs to work harder on his impulse stride and drive his right foot through positively into it plant rather than cutting it short - will give him more range and penetration throh he throw rather than falling off it at the end and create more width on the ground for him to attack off.
Chris, needs a rythmical run up - and look how low and around the side he throws. His left leg doesn't really drive on his cross overs and his right fooot on the impulse phase drops in rather than drives in and thus reduces his considerable range potential. In normal otion he looks more like he chucks it off a shortish arm (too low at the back so doesn't produce the correct platform to deliver from) rather than creates range and pulls it. Chris is a great physical specimen - strong, fast powerful ad with long 6'5" levers but he chooses to rely on strong arming off a few strides which have ranged from 76m at bedfors to 69-74m in most of his meets and he could be so much better than that and i hope he sorts himself out this winter. He is a lucky lad as he has the physical attributes - he just needs to get a technique to use it more effectively and then he could throw as far as neiland and roberson who are his sort of physical specimen types!
Freya did go on to throw 49m which is awesome for a 15 year old and hopefully made progress with her allignment issues which crept into her throwing as the season went on. She could throw near the Uk U20 record his year having improved from 44-49 this year and will be upping her training load and quality this winter. Her last three strides are choppy and short and throws her left arm too high and thus drops her right arm and more recently has been rotating to much.
Goldie didn't look right at loughborough - short and choppy for her on off it too quickly where last year she had time with the spear in hand. MAybe she is copping her right leg back too much this year - im not sure but it didn't have the same flow or range as last year - and hasn't looked right in the few times I saw her but probably is a result of her injury but im sure she'll be back next year.
James looks like he needs to find a way of keeping those feet on the round as he throws as he is another who looks like he is thru the throw too quickly, i.e hit it prematurely rather than holding the left side longer - then strike.
Early season promised much without really materialising but I think next year wll see quite a few of our U23, U20 U17 athletes make some serious progress and the top few in the rankings can make a go of really pushing on. Potentially next year you could have nick neiland, merv, chris, mike allen, james, dave p (if injury free) over 80m next year and/or the years beyond and looking further you have to hope that some of our youngsters will get there eventually.
The women - im not so sure - barring Freya who could be number 2 ranked as a 16 year old next year (she is ranked 4th as a 15 year old) i get the feeling that my of them see 45/50m at the bench mark when 55m should be a start for seniors (as it isn't a bad junior throw) looking for 60m as the next marker but for years now they have struggled to get there.
So lets get working hard this winter on conditoning and technique!

i think that's a good fair commentary there nije! This year certainly was a springboard in the men's with a lot of other girls looking to push 50m next season. More women than ever over 40m this year shows that the talent pool is deepening! My top two girls will be pushing forwards to 50m in 2010 that's for sure!

Thanks mate - I apologise if I soud a little bit negative about the girls at present but I don't think having a 15 year old as 4th senior means we are healthy at present ad if it was the case for the men - would we be so forgiving. I do believe that the girls do set their sites a tad too low. I told freya she would throw aound 50 at the start of the year and she did't really believe it and I have set her a target for next year whihc excites her and hopefull she will believe it.
Many of our throwers if thye are improving at the senior level are doing it by a metre each year when really they want a year where they really step up .e backey went from 64- 78-79-85-91 in four years and mick hill from 77-85 in one year. We have a few wo hve got to 70-75 who have then stablised or slightly regressed. However, i think we have a w who will achieve over the next two or three years now. I think the event is ready to move on and has had the shake up over the last few years to achieve this. YOU CANNOT DO IT OVERNIGht but it is on its way.
