Hi - I know it basically comes down to personal preference and the throwing style but I am looking for advice on which javelin to buy. My athlete is a junior combined eventer with a pb of 45m at U/17 and should throw c50m as a first year junior. He is a left hander and has a tendency to throw high rather than flat. Common sense would suggest either the Nordic Viking (50m) or the Nemeth Standard (50m) - both bog-standard models. Or should he be looking at a 60m rated javelin of better quality? Any thoughts or suggestions based on your experience with these javelins would be very welcome.

a nice cheap javelin he could/should consider is the nemeth 70m! The 60m drops very quickly but the 70 holds out longer. It is a nice javelin and relatively cheap less than £200

Hi Sam -Thanks for this advice. Is there any increased danger of him "no throwing" if he only manages 50m with a 70m rated javelin?

no, not really only in severe tailwinds from straight behind should see the javelin "tail" and make it hard to flight, but this is common with people throwing all sorts of distances.
to be honest with you at 50m he could even throw most of the top rated javelins and they will land point first - the nemeth 70 is a good choice though for someone who isn't a specialist - bearing in mind all the other bits of kit he needs to be paying out for.
if money was no object i'd choose a nordic champion.

Many thanks for this - a Nemeth 70 will be the one.
