I’m looking to find a javelin coach for my son.
He is partially disabled and competes at U17 level in Disability Sports. He is the current UK national champion and record holder in his disability group with a PB of 21.70m (600g). Despite the fact that his mother is a qualified UKA coach, sports scientist and javelin thrower, we have reached a plateau with his coaching. Perhaps it is one of those things like parents shouldn’t teach their own children to drive.
Anyway we are looking for some outside help with technique coaching. Ideally we’d like to take him to a session where he is assessed by someone else who can therefore either give us some advice on how to move forward or could propose a way for them to work more regularly with him. As we are strong believers in coaches getting paid for their time, we would expect to do so in this instance. We are based in Warwick and happy to travel
David Parker if by any chance you read this can you reply first please! I see from another post that you coach Kenny Churchill. My son has a similar disability and it's Kenny's records he wants to break! (no point in aiming low eh?)
Anyone else is free to reply also please. I don't want to let my son down just because I haven't a clue what I'm doing (I was a triple jumprer so I'm bugger all use to him)
Thanks

We have a Coach at Milton Keynes who Coaches disabled Athletes. We have 2 very good Athletes here, Lucie Prosser and Thomas Green, Thomas being on the world class pathway I believe. We have Ken Green and Greg Symonds here, not sure if that helps? I know Greg Coaches Javelin with Lucie, although Thomas does not do Javelin. I know what you mean about Coaching your own, although coaching mine, I try to gain as much help from others, to help us both!

Hi Javelindad,
I am David's dad. David no longer contributes on this forum but I do know he no longer coaches Kenny Churchill. The problems were that Kenny was based in Loughborough and David's work is in Sheffield. Kenny was getting funding and David wasn't and as David has to work over 50 hours a week to fulfill his job description he was unable to travel to Loughborough often enough. Add to that his own training needs and it just was not possible to maintain.
I shall mention your post to him when he returns from Amsterdam later on this week
All the best to you and your son
Phil
