I have torn my calf for the 2nd time in my life. the last time was in 2004 and that hurt so much i used every swear word i could muster.. jim evs will back me up on that one
last night i was doing some throwing, i warmed up and stretched but probably went on for too long (not probably.. i obviously did) 1hr20mins into the session i went to start my run-up and it just popped.. i knew straight away what had happened and while it was not as painfull as last time the mental effects were the same..
i screamed and cried and generally thrashed about for 15mins.
the difference this time around i managed to get both anti inlamatories and ice within an hour of doing the injury.. last time i didn't get ice for 24hours
the other difference this time is i have full movement in my foot but cannot put any pressure through it eg walking without feeling like i am being stabbed.
this is not a happy time for me.. i am 2 months into my "winter training" after coming back from my knee injury.. i now have the issue of getting back from this.
Ice and anti-inflammatories are all i am doing with it for the next 24hours and then i will get some physio on it. I hope it heals faster than it did last time.

i have regained a lot of mobility in a short space of time and i can almost walk properly now.. i am still getting the odd stabbing sensation in the calf when i try to push it a bit too far. I plan to get the bike out at the end of next week to really start putting the muscle through it's paces before i get back in the gym to start lights weights on the muscle to build the strength back up. i think i made a wise descision not to go to work from the day after doing the injury so that i could keep on icing it and resting it. I have also been applying tiger Balm over night and wrapping the muscle up nice and tight. this has left it feeling quite good in the mornings. I might just get back in time for the start of June or July.. woo hoo

right it's nearly 3 weeks since i did this injury now and the progress is going really well
i have fully freedom when walking and have even been jogging on it.. it slightly feels like it's pulling when i try anythign really heavy on it such as sprinting or cross steppingon my toes..
i have managed to do some throwing last night and threw 46m off a kinda shuffle where i didn't really put much pressure through my lower right leg (if that's possible)
I intend on throwing at the essex champs tomorrow and might even try a few extra steps..but i'll see how it goes..
have got a massage session on it later on tonight so hopefully that will free it up even more for tomorrow

essex champs i came 3rd with 48.62m off a short shuffle, that was a season's best (47.25m previously). this week just gone itrained once in the gym HARD and then rested up because i was throwing today for my club in the southern league Div 1 Last night i made the mistake of having a curry which had somethign in it that made me have a severe allergic reaction anyway... that is all cleared up now and i can report that i managed to do some light coross steps to throw (7) and threw a sb 49.58m to carry on with my improvement. i am told i threw further in the warm up though (much) so there is a lot to look forward to

ok calf is now in a much more stable position and i am getting no pain in it at all... to quote bonne from last nights session "frankly sam, I am amazed at how fast you have recovered" so am I!!!
threw 53m last night off 7 slightly faster paced cross steps but not to my full pace (if i ever had a pace) so my confidence is sky high!!!
