Sound logic James! Why not put it on, on the day of the AAAs, given only 8/10 men - women will be throwing then? If you choose a central location, who knows you may attract some of the top 10 throwers, I say this because many were not too partial to dodging pole vaulters, shot putters, and officials, etc. Especially when a good competition could have been had at the other end of the stadium Like Slinger says athletics for the athletes, not administrators! Find a good venue , You could ask ABAC to see if you could call it the ABAC championships....food for thought....life is what WE make it.

"I don't think the main aim of javfests is to try and attract the top throwers in the country. The main aim is to get as many throwers together of all ages and abilities so I don't think the success should be based on how many of the top 10 we get there but how many throwers we get there overall. Sure its nice to have the top throwers there but not the be all and end all."
you see the whole reason why i took up the game was because i watched people and became inspired to do it.........we had backley and hill at the top of their game when i was young and they were [still are! ;D] my heros.
today in britain we don't have javelin throwers of that caliber, but the top guys like young james et al are no doubt still idols to lots of youngsters [young kids were asking james and the rest for autographs at throws fest so they must be! ;D] and for me it's crucial that to get youngsters not only involved but inspired - youngsters who say throw 50m would love to see what it's like to see a javelin flying 70 or 80m, any young kid seeing that would be straight home rooting about in the shed for some old garden canes to throw - guaranteed!!!

I agree with what you're saying - I wasn't suggesting we don't want people like Jimbo there, for me to see someone throwing 10m further than me inspires me let alone 20 or 25 further than me as some of the guys do and we've been fortunate enough that when hes fit Jimbo and some of the other top throwers have been there.
I guess my point was that the aim is not for it to be an "elite only" competition which fits in with what you are saying so that people of all abilities can mix in a competition situation where they would not normally be able to in league matches etc.
This is important when considering when the comp should be - March - April is often too early for more experienced throwers so to get them there we need to hold the event at the right time.

Perhaps a useful method would be to create an opportunity for throwers of all abilities to have a meaningful level of competition..this moves the sport forward...rather than just having a jamboree!
The better the standard of thrower the better it is for all!
The day of the AAAs is an ideal opportunity to put on a good jav competition for athletes, given 95% will not be eligible to compete, a great time of year also.
After all how many competitions are being held on that day???

Midland league dates are always the first Saturday of May, June, July and August, which correspond with the BAL matches. I don't know if the other regional leagues are the same weekends.
I have an excel sheet with many of the proposed dates on it (although i think there has been some changes). If someone can tell me how i can post a link or i can e mail to anyone who wants it.

Wizard you could have a point - by holding the javfest on the day of the aaa's we may only be excluding 8-10 senior males and females and no juniors (with the exception of those competing with the seniors). We also need to consider how many would want to watch the aaa's and we are also cutting out the option of any 70m+ males and 50m+ females. We could also be preventing people from having the opportunity of acheiving qualifying distances etc for various competitions as it is so late in the season.
I think I will send out a survey to see what javclub members want to obtain from the day and when they would like to have the event - we won't be able to cater for all but will try and position the competition best to suit the majority.
Watch this space.

Hi james Given what a farce the AAAs were last year perhaps you might attract some of the longer throwers to your meeting. I am not quite sure as yet but could it be there is no AAAs next season might be EA or UKA I think an ABAC Javelin Championship would be a good idea as well as.

Could we not have some sort of poll? Lets have a few dates, and then see which one comes out on top. Perhaps too simple??!!
Same date as last year is good for Sadie & I for what its worth!

I think an ABAC Javelin Championship would be a good idea as well as. Given "Javelin Sam's" love/hate relationship with ABAC I don't know what his thougts would be! ;D In all seriousness though - what could the benefits be of thejavelinclub and ABAC partnering to put an event on? Would be interested to know how it could benefit both parties?

It could be the start of a beautiful relationship James. ;D If each event had a set up like this one and each looked after their own event and coaching with comps etc then athletics will survive for ever! Sam could be the H&S & Child protection Officer. ;D

I am always open to suggestions as to how we can make this the best event club in the uk (if it isn't already as i have seen a decline with the hammer circle) If there is one group that wants to support us in our quest then i will sit and listen to what they have to offer. I have to assess whether it will be of benfit to the throwers and coaches that are part of this fantastic club.

I have to assess whether it will be of benfit to the throwers and coaches that are part of this fantastic club. Certainly the Hammer Circle needs more users using it that is for sure, and more security to stop the spammers bombarding it. Since I have taken over running the maintenance of the forums it has got much better and no more spammers at all! Also there are new pics and stuff from the (2 day) re-union. The best thing about this site is there are more users that come on and post, which is sadly lacking with the hammer circle. But without upsetting Sam et al, you can pick up a hell of a lot of good ideas from the re-union day that the hammer circle organised. They also gave out competition hammers as prizes at Throwsfest, 1 of which Sadie won. I can only do a certain amount, but at the end of the day, if there are no REGULAR posts, people will stop coming, and in turn it will then die.
