Tell us when you would ideally like to hold a festival early season or late season.
bear in mind that at the end of april the leagues start and go on till late august/early september

'Hey I wish it was October!'
But ofcorse october is after september so sorry October, you will ever by unwanted....
2 weeks b4 miniolympics?
For people my age also this could be a warm up comp for the youth olympic games in septembre since we won't have too many chances to meat between then and AAA's.

good competitions at the right time with the right athletes involved always makes javelin throwing a pleasure and a time that really does inspire most to be at their best and throw well, if not PB's.......
with this in mind.......
i suggest a week in the summer!!! oooh! and a week regardless of what club meets etc are on, at the end of the day we are athletes and individuals - i know i was, i never once did a comp thinking right the points are for the club - never, it was always for me to be the best i could be on that day.......my thinking is that an athlete would rather choose to do a comp they know they are going to get great conditions and a great comp, than a comp say a league match at barnet [very poor place for jav btw! ;D]
you see, yeah April's mostly free, but a lot of athlete especially the older ones won't have even considered competing that early.
plus, it would be a great comp to have at a time when people need another opportunity to qualify for a champs they want to do [this is to attract the big name players]
maybe it could be after the AAA's and before the last qualifying date for the worlds, as throws fest was last year? maybe it could be on the same day as throws fest or BAL league match etc? that might upset a couple of people!!!! but i reckon it should be on before the AAA's........i hope javelin throwers aren't like sprinters and "hide" from people and fake injuries! hahahahaha!

What about in May?

Weekend before Inter counties may be an idea, most would have thrown at least once or twice by then. Unsure about mid summer - nice idea but I feel that there may be too much other comp congestion, especially prior to AAAs. May be an idea to muscle in on a Champs Qualifying comp etc, but I feel that UKA will then try to get in on the act and possibly take over (would that be good or bad??). How about end Aug on the same day (or thereabouts) as the Major Champs final. Ladies final on Friday 31 Aug and mens final Sun 2 Sep - perhap an ideal date in that context is hold it on Sat 1 Sep, you can then review the ladies final and mens qualifying, thus allowing plenty of time for competitors and others to get home to watch the mens final.

what about April or late September. I think September will be good because some people might just be looking to get 1 last competition in before the season ends!

I wonder when the main claendar for T&F will be published? BUSAs are the 1st weekend in May (5th / 6th) and the county champs are normally the weekend after that (12th / 13th) with the intercounties following a fortnight after (26th or 27th).

personally, i think it'd be interesting to see it on the same day as say a BAL match or similar........at the end of the day if you can organise a comp with all the best athletes there they are going to do it [unless they are chickens! ;D] and then they'd sack off the club match or whatever, clubs wouldn't like it, but personally javelin throwing to me is an individual thing.
having it early will attract no decent seniors - only kids, as they won't have started yet, having it late - maybe? but better just before some qualifying date for a major champs imo ie june/july time.
make it peak time and have it rivaling against some other comp, rather than finding some free weekend in september or cold, wet april.
attracting the very top athletes in the UK from all age catergories, particulary seniors is key.

AAARRGGHH
right the problems we ahve in the summer is that we would have to sompete with everything else, national champs, regional champs national leagues regional leagues hollidays etc etc
not sure what you mean by your comment on not gettign the best seniors.. we had two of the top 10 at the last jav fest for men and one of the top 5 women plus all the best youngsters
at the end of the day it's not just about the best in the country attending it's about getting everyone from all ages and all abilities involved
obvioulsy the fixture will not suit everyone but we need to make a decision as to when it is
The first jav fest was great in September..we had a BBQ and a bar open for drinks..the end of the day got a little worse though but overall it was warm and sunny.
the fest's in the aprils have been fresh sunny and or overcast. we have not had rain.
I'd prefer to have it in the warmer times.. i'll wait till the new year to make a descision when the fixture lists are published

2 of 10 or 1 out of 5 isn't great tbh..........
throws fest had more, yeah there was money involved, but not much, i think getting the best seniors is important as it attracts others such as youngsters to go watch and compete.
you'll often here athletes who say compete at the AAA's seniors that they wish they had more opportunities to compete against one another as standards do raise a bit and this in my mind is what jav fest and the website is all about isn't it - development of the game........having comps where only tom, dick and harry [whoever they are] compete is just like any non event specific open meeting and for you to consider doing it would be like doing any other open meeting.

Throws fest had more not only because of the ash incentive but because it was also part of the UKa Challenge series

2 of 10 or 1 out of 5 isn't great tbh.......... I don't think the main aim of javfests is to try and attract the top throwers in the country. The main aim is to get as many throwers together of all ages and abilities so I don't think the success should be based on how many of the top 10 we get there but how many throwers we get there overall. Sure its nice to have the top throwers there but not the be all and end all. I found some fixtures for next season: May 5th BAL Match 1 June 2nd BAL Match 2 June 10th Bedford International July 7th BAL Match 3 July 27-29th AAAs August 4th BAL Match 4 August 11th-12th Scottish Champs August 18th Jubilee Cup Final I would presume that the counties will be the weekend of the 12th and 13th of May and the Inter counties two weeks after that which would be 26th and 27th. I'm not sure about the regional leagues but if there was no match the weeked after the counties then that could be the best weekend - 1 week before the Inter-counties as people have suggested. I think it is best to find a free weekend or one that is as free as possible - there's little point trying to compete against the British league where throwers can already get a good competition and I would imagine throwers in the regional leagues will feel the same. Last year throwsfest may have had more throwers if they didn't have it the same weekend as the jubilee cup semi-finals. A lot of people I spoke to really didn't want to travel far and throw 2 days in a row.
