I'm using the break before winter training starts in mid October to do loads of exercise stuff that I wouldn't normally do. Yoga - for flexibility Spin - cardio workout and tonight was circuits. It's the first time in 24 years that I've been anywhere near a circuit class, so it was a bit a shock to the system. I was also expecting something like 20 secs on an exercise and 5 seconds to move to the next. It was like that, except the next exercise was the same as the last one (repeat 7 times). Still at the end of those 7 repetitions we got a wee break before the next exercise. Just enough time to run down the stairs, round the building (which has an ice rink attached) and back up the stairs. I think it's fair to say, I'm very tired! What "unusual" stuff is everyone else doing, and why?

I'm going to be having about 2 weeks of doing nothing but flexibility. I'm making sure any inflamations from the season go away before i start the hard winter stuff so they dont develope into a problem. Just making sure i'm not falling appart and a good excuse to put my feet up!

I think that aquajogging or deep water running could be good training for rest phase.Has anyone tried it? I'm doing it at the moment because it is only thing can do after my leg surgery, but i have done it aslo earlier. For example last year I used to do that often after gym (well i'm training in gym where is a pool) and i have found it good stuff for fasten recovery. I often use also cold watrer pool 1-2 minutes after training.

Aqua jogging is the nuts! I use it for client rehab or if someone is too large to run. They an really work at 100% with no problems.

I'm back from the body pump class. OMG. Give me have weights and a few reps every day. 5 mins of constant benching, or squats, or tricep work with piddlie little weights is a killer. Went to run down the stairs after and my legs buckled! Spin tomorrow. If I can walk.

It's always worth going on the odd chance a guy turns up who hasnt done body pumb before. He'll see all the women with the light weights, then be macho and grab the biggest there. Then in 20mins he'll be collapsed in the corner wondering where his arms and legs have gone to, looking like a tit. Great fun to watch!

i always thought some rest of doing nothing ie not time spent at not the track was beneficial, i know there are lots of theories about losing strength values etc but just for the rest of the mind i do feel it is important that some time off is taken.

I'm going to do nothing for three weeks aprt from gentle cv type exercise and some light circuits. Then I'm going to practice the javelin, practice the javelin and practice the javelin. I have a specific knee problem to work on but my "training time" will always include some javelin practice. I'll work out what med balls, weights, sprints, circuits, drills to do when I allocate my time to train.
Did I mention that I was going to practice throwing the javelin as well?
