Hi guys. I´m Rafael, 22 years, student, from Brazil I´m kind new in javelin throwing and would like to ask you guys some help. Here are some videos of me throwing in the first semester os 2007. I have quite big problems, but i´m having trouble in the left brake foot after cross step. It´s difficult to me, my coach says what i have to do, i do it without hanging the jav, but when i go to the throw, but i can´t stick the left foot to the ground. Another difficult i think it´s one of my biggest, are the hip rotation. Any tips? Exercises??? www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2Hx_-HXk_Mwww.youtube.com/watch?v=CRicNFCWJ5Uwww.youtube.com/watch?v=EWFBIxzotxgI think i throw "only with the arm", just can´t use the body... =/ My pb (800g) is 40.50m...i need only about 45m to win our competition between medical schools Thank you guys... cheers

At the moment, go back to basics and do lots of 'fixed feet' throwing starting with standing throws but make sure everything is high including the hand at delivery. Will add more in a fortnight when you have mastered that.

oh yes. That is absolutely fine. This is Jan ball throwing as part of his winter training. Use a jav if you wish possibly a lighter one to get you into the routine. The hip drive is important in order to facilitate the 'block' that you wanted to develop. If you can find a good sight line and consistently throw the javelin through the point-- imagine aiming it through a black hole in the sky and it must not touch the sides-- then attempt exactly the same throw with a three stride approach -left, right, left - but keep the right foot contact after you have released the jav. This retains the 'fixed feet' element of the throw and teaches you not to break contact with the ground too early.
Next would be a five stride run up and so on.

Hi guys. Some news... I still having the problem with the left leg/hip rotation. I´m working on it, in rotating the hip from right to forward/left. I´m thinking a lot of it when throwing... Also i´m quite excited because my javelin shoes ( nike, the black and red model - i think it´s the one before the white and red ) finnaly arrived! No more throwing with normal shoes! I hope it can help me to get confident in rotating the body and planting the foot strongly!! Me and a friend of my university filmed some throws yesterday. He did good, throwing about 45m ( wich is what we need to win our medical schools competition ). I´m in 4th grade, he´s in 6th. So, as our medicine university in brazil is for 6 years, this is the last one of him, then i´ll have more 2 years playing only me and the coach. br.youtube.com/watch?v=Cc4ZnQ3dfSsI couldn´t work fine that day.Besides, my shoulder was a little painful. See that i throw "with the arm", not with the body. I think i could do some better throws in the last of the videos ( around 3:00 minutes of video ). I´m trying to work on some points: - Rotate the hip and pass over the left leg, planting the foot - Don´t do the running and the launch looking to much to the side/to the jav. Trying to look forward ( i´m thinking if i stay to much turned to the side, it´s harder to me to correct the rotation problem ) - Don´t let the arm that carries the javelin come down - Don´t make the crossover step too much like as a "jump" ( my friend say that it could be a problem, and i think it too - is it? ) Wel...that´s something like this my trainings are going. We´ll have our competition in early september. Now, hopping to improve some with the spikes!!! Cherrs, Rafael
