Like I have said on the other forum, my 13th and last position is dreadfull! I am collapsed, my arm is bent and it seems that my right foot is rotated slightly to the left. I think this is the worst position I have ever been in and what a competition to do it in aswell!!! My run up was too fast, I was not controlled and what happened! A 34.18m throw as my best.

Well Robyn its good that you realise what was wrong, the things you are doing all come from being too tense and eager to give it a big spank. You have to try to remember when you are on the runway that no-one throws big by using only their arm and an aggressive runup. You need to be more on your toes and running taller in the approach so that you actually come slightly down onto the blocking leg rather than rising up into it from a crouched position. The eagerness of your throw has caused your arm to creep in and come around the side (ouch) rather than over the top so you are losing about 30cm+ of pulling range which has a big affect on the amount of time you get to apply force into the spear. On a positive note in your actual delivery position you have fully extended the hips and are using a nice upright pull through with the chest, if you had a straight left blocking leg and had kept your arm back until this position then you would be throwing very much further...very much... Don't get frustrated about these little technical flaws, Rome wasn't built in a day and since the last time i commented on your technique you have learned how to strike through with the hips and follow through properly. Now you just need to work on staying relaxed when you throw and to let the throwing base start your pull rather than your arm. Take a look at Sadie's pre throw stride, she is running tall and has her arm fully extended behind her yet she is still clearly aggressively accelerating into the throwing base and she doesn't seem to be in a panic to get rid of the javelin- its all very 'Backley' atleast at that point of the throw. You need to achieve the same kind of relaxed aggression that she has in order to progress to the next level. Sadie, good job and Robyn keep plugging away and above all throw relaxed and give your upper body more time to do its bit properly.

Thanks again wez for the good advice! I threw 10 times better today and I wasnt hitting the javelin too hard either!! I was tall, my run up wasnt a sprint and very aggresive I was also relaxed and arm was high. The hip was coming through and I was pulling through in a straight line and the javelin had better hight and stuck in to! I was so pleased. If I produce todays throws in competition I will be so happy!
