This is so nearly quite good. See how he leans towareds the camera with a very low throwing hand. His left arm then faces vey high up to wards the heavens - What goes up must come down - so the same arm then drives downards and he gets tat stooped position - transferring lots of energy into the ground - posssiby causing him to collapse and remain off balance - and 60 degre angel of release!
Cause and effect. FOr what i's worth - this is what I'd do
POint down at the start of the throw adn poinitng slightly to the left Head up and from cross overs, look down the line behind his left deltoid ( shoulder) Chest out hips up and forward Palm up point down Run straight and hard with purpose Left arm should drop down to a position that will work for him, I'd drop it very low and see how he gets on i.e. just below shoulder level With the allignment sorted, and left sholder down, palm up at the back, jav point on his temple, let everything else happen and hopefulyl it will fall into place Then you can deal with any technical faults that may arise form that.
He needs a nice rythm on the run up and straighten himself into a comforable position and hope that he can get more penetration through the throw that twist and collapse down whilst throwing the jav into exttremely high positions.
IM humble O !

He does alot of things naturally right, just needs to modify certain parts that will hopefully land him in a great position to crack it. The boy is a natural born thrower!

i very much agree....... merv seems to get quite a bit of attention and whilst most people may think he's being picked on and that because no-one from his camp has come out right and asked for any suggestions of help people are best to keep quiet and yes, i agree if the comments are going to be dorogatory and hurtful, but i don't think people are being this way at all, people just recognise that merv has a talent and a talent pretty much as good as any man in the UK right now and somehow, somewhere it needs to be realised.
in my mind he's gone backwards since last year technically and i think that's a shame.

I hope Merv and his coach (es) don't take this as insulting - I was just putting my opinion down for them to maybe respond to. We are all Merv fans aren't we and want to seee him do good but like slinger, As throwers one or two get a bit frustrated and feel they have to comment, hence rather than criticise I actually suggested some things that may be of use. If they are not then that's fine as well -party on as they say

Merv is not worried at all what peeps put on her (his words), although I pass stuff on sometimes. John & Merv are working on as much as they can at the minute. It is difficult as he does not drive and our Track is being upgraded......for the better. Merv has one thing on his side, he is a young lad and will sort his problems out I am sure!

Hi LBA40
Anything we can do to help in the jav club - just ask if needed - and ask the right people - who might not necessarily be me BTW

I'm not talking about Merv specifically here as I don't know much about his particular situation, however this begs the question about what role UKA should play if a clearly talented athlete fails to progress.
The most obvious example is MLF whose change of coach may yet pay dividends - we'll see. Do they only really become involved if the athlete is funded - which I assume Merv isn't - how long do they watch an athlete stalling before intervening?
Goldie has improved dramatically after switching coaches.....did UKA have any part in that, or was it her own doing?
Anyone know how it all works?

i'd imagine that it was gold's choice especially as she moved back home, mark was the perfect choice for her really as she's known him ever since she first picked up a spear.
i'd imagine you would have to be a funded athlete for UKa to want to help at all.
mike allen for example is suffering with an injured forearm or has been yet has received no help and he is a potential qualifer for the WC's, so if he doesn't get any help then merv has no chance.
all very wrong tbh.
you know merv will be something like 29 in 2012 and he does have the potential to be a very good javelin thrower and yet UKa or anyone fail to look at athletes like him for our olympic games in 2012......to me it isn't rocket science but it needs a plan and for someone/people to manage athetes like mervyn and form a 5 year plan, leading up to our olympic games based around what he needs as an individual to regain and continue his progress, there doesn't seem to be any structure with long term objectives unless perhaps you are funded.
i guess at the end of the day it'll be left to the individual and coach to come up with the goods but a bit of support and guidance would go a long way.

I thought all the focus on 2012 was going on the 16 to 20 year olds of today. That makes Merv a few years too old.

which shows a lack of knowledge of our event, depending on the number of prior years of training you have under your belt, many athletes won't be at their very best till they are 30 years old or so, which means even i have many years left of wonderful javelining ahead of me!!
