alright fella???
just watching your vid and have been for a while now, both normal and at slow speeds.......
firstly i want to say that often people look for faults and are often over critical of themselves - please don't fall into this catergory, i appreciate you asking people for advice but don't fall foul of listening to too many people as you will become confused " too many cooks spoil the broth" so the speak.......
ok, what i will say is that the positions you hit from final right foot contact through to left foot plant are fantastic in my mind, you create decent separation and delay because you manage to work the right hip early enough prior to left contacting and you keep the top half shut off fairly well [i'll come back to this later though] and your block remains very braced and strong through out delivery - it's very good really, i do like it.
but as for improvements - it does look a little "squashed" at delivery and perhaps you do pull left slightly [hard to see from side on really] you seem to sort of go under yourself to recover, if that makes sense??? i think if you had a little more room you could chase the spear a little higher over the left leg.........maybe this squashed look is perhaps due to being close..ish to the line, i'd imagine that in training you'd be fine off that run up, but in comp when the juices are flowing you wil always be a little bit further and closer to the line - maybe try taking the check marks back a notch? about pulling to the left - maybe you do a tad, but to me that's a little something to work on with balls and javs in the winter, you could do a little bit now with some balls into a net, but i wouldn't be too concerned tbh.
you do get a great shoulder and chest on it though - just watching that now scrolling in back and forward - superb actually.
infact the more i watch it the better it is!!! in my mind it's the first comp of the year - your always going to be a little too keen and a bit nervous, so you have to put that into perspective - not great conditions either [go the bedford mate!] so therefore i would say change not alot!!!!! don't go looking for something or a fault that isn't there especially in the thinking that if that something is going to be the key for 70m, because that is a 70m throw on that vid tbh - it really is, i'm not just saying that mate.
keep sharp, don't throw too much in training, so you stay ultra keen, but do lots of run ups and running with and with out the jav and most important of all mate and i mean this - we do a simple event - remeber it's the broth! and when we keep it that way it's easy, when we complicate it and "think" too much it goes wrong [just like broth!!] - keep a very clear mind and do not listen to too many people who want to stick their two penneth's worth in the A. make you feel shit [for their own gain] and B. do it to make themselves look big and clever and that they know it all.
i have that throw saved now mate, it'd be great to see some training chucks too to compare..........
peace and love homie!
i hope all that makes sense......let me know. the above was taken from a PM to wez, but i thought that maybe it should be on the open forum as it might start another debate? you see my feeling is that sometimes we try and change things searching for something and often it isn't the answer, sometimes we try and "tweak" things for the sake of it..........when in reality things are best left alone. i like wez's throw as fundamentally he achieves lots of things that i would say are essential to good javelin throwing............this isn't a kop out, just advice to a mate, that perhaps doesn't need any at all!!! ;D - if that makes sense!!!

cheers mate- wise words as ever I will keep going much the same with my training but try to focus much more on quality and recovery to sharpen up. As to the throw i was annoyed that i let my throwing elbow travel in but that isn't a major issue probably just due to nerves. You are right about the delivery being squashed looking and i think that is what i will be working on most of all in training. Its something that i've always done but i wasn't concerned with it before as i had bigger technical problems then, i will just try to stay up more and work over the block and get some penetration on the follow through. I've always watched in awe as throwers catapult over the top of their plant- just like the great pic of Nije in his Belgrave days literally flying in the air. If you see me doing that at the next comp then 70m beware. btw it was a very good point about not trying to change too much in comp season and i will be pretty much working on that only as most of the other stuff i do is fairly well ingrained on my natural throwing style by now. lets see what happens tomorrow- i'll go prepared with my camera so hopefully i will post up some training throws too
